“Chandan” (1971), though a recent movie by the standards of this blog, is an obscure movie for all practical purposes. I was not aware of this movie when it was released in 1971.
It turns out that this movie was a B grade movie which was produced and directed by Kewal Mishra under the banner of Kewal Art productions. The movie had Som Dutt,Joginder Shelly, Komal aka Poonam Sinha, Jayashree.T., Zeb Rehman, Dilip Dutt, Ramesh Deo, Ram Mohan, Birbal, Mohan Choti, V.Gopal, Kishan, Meenakshi, Renu Joshi, M.Sahgal, Coca cola, Dhanraj, Asi Dutt, Kishan, Kishore Kumar etc in it.
Here is a song from this movie. I had never heard this song before. This song is sung by Mukesh. Omkar Verma is the lyricist. Music is composed by Sonik Omi.
The song is lip synced by Som Dutt, with Joginder also visible in the picturisation.
If Som Dutt in his daaku getup looks like Sunil Dutt, then there is good reason for that. He was the brother of Sunil Dutt. But unlike his famous brother, he failed to make it big in Hindi movies and faded away unnoticed.
I notice that the movie had a few other Dutt’s as well. I wonder if they too were relatives of Sunil Dutt. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this movie as well as on these actors.
