Tu kitne baras ka

The song that I sent last time for posting was about calling the guy home for tea and meeting the girls’ parents. Now the song which I thought apt to follow the previous one is from the 1980- Subhash Ghai directed rebirth story “Karz”. Here in this song we have two 51 year olds Kishore da (god bless him for being an all round entertainer) and Lata didi (that’s what the entire film industry addresses her as) singing “that they are sixteen and seventeen” for a 28 year old Rishi Kapoor and 22 year old Tina Munim. What I find charming is the song in its entirety viz. the picturization, the lyrics, the music, the singing and the acting. I simply admire it.

So the song situation is that Pran who is Tina’s guardian has just given his approval for Tina’s and Rishi’s Love and given them permission to meet etc. And for added measure he has sent Viju Khote and Bhramachari as watchdogs. The song ends with Rishi Kapoor cycling through tea estates and this puts him on recollection mode. That’s how the story moves to the reincarnation part. Probably that’s why Subhash Ghai is such a master story teller and none of the songs in his movies were pointless.

When I first saw the song or rather heard it reminded me of the song from “Sound Of Music”—-“I am sixteen going on seventeen”. Its quite possible that the team behind the song viz. Ghai, Anand Bakshi and Laxmikant Pyarelal were also fans of the songs of “the Sound Of Music”

Chorus

Lyrics

tu kitne baras ka,
tu kitne baras ki
main solah baras ki
toh main satra baras ka
solah
satrah
satrah
solah
mil naa jaaye naina
ik do baras zara door rehna
ik do baras zara door rehna
kuchh ho gaya to phir naa kehna
main solah baras ki
tu satrah baras ka
main solah baras ki
tu satrah baras ka
mil naa jaaye naina
kuchh bhi ho musqil hai door rehna
kuchh ho gaya to phir na kehna
tu solah baras ki,
main satrah baras ka
tu solah baras ki,
main satrah baras ka
mil naa jaaye naina,

ik do baras zara door rehna
kuchh ho gaya to phir naa kehna

parbat se ghanghor ghataayen takraayen to kya ho,
barsaat ho o
tere dil se mera dil mil jaaye to kya ho

baaraat ho
jaane kab barsaat ho
jaane kab baaraat ho
mera dil to chaahe aaj ki raat milan ki raat ho

kyun kyun kyun kyun
kyunki
tu solah baras ki
main satrah baras ka
tu solah baras ki
main satrah baras ka
mil naa jaaye naina

ik do baras zara door rehna
kuchh ho gaya to phir naa kehna

tu ru ru ru ru
ru ru ru ru ru ru ru
aa aa aa aa
ru ru ru ru ru ru
aa aa aa aa

sachche premi sab milte hain
ab dekhen ham kab milte hain

milne mein ab kya musqil hai,
teri meri ik manzil hai
door hai wo nazdeek nahin hai ae
ab ye milna theek nahin hai ae ae
kyun kyun kyun kyun
kyunki
main solah baras ki
tu satrah baras ka
main solah baras ki
tu satrah baras ka
mil naa jaaye naina
kuchh bhi ho musqil hai door rehna
kuchh ho gaya to phir naa kehna

o o o
ik do baras zara door rehna
kuchh ho gaya to phir naa kehna
main solah baras ki
main satrah baras ka
main solah baras ki
main satrah baras ka

I missed songs of Tina-Rishi songs from Aapke deewane,Kaatilon ke kaathil(1981->Yakbaa yak, kahin koi mil jaata hai, yakbayak and o meri chorni o meri morni main toh ho chukaa tumhara-for a change by Kalyanji Anandji),
Deedar-e-yaar(any duet is there picturised solely on rishi and tina ??)
