“Samundar” (1957) was a P N Films production where P N Stood for Premnath. The movie was produced and directed by Premnath. It was quite an all family affair in the sense that Premnath, Bina Rai (his wife), Rajendranath (his brother) figuring in the movie. Others in the cast were Nishi, Tuntun, Anmol Krishan, Ram Avtar, Ullas, Heeralal, Sundar, Ridkoo, Paul Sharma, Rajan Kapoor, Habeeb, Azeem, Mahesh, Manohar, Niranjan etc.

I have discussed four songs from this movie in the past. Here is another song from the movie.

This song is sung by Geeta Dutt. Listening to the tune of the song reveals that it uses the same western tune as the famous Mera naam Chin Chin Choo(Howrah Bridge)(1958) that came the same year.

I am unable to identify the lady lip syncing the song no matter how many times I may have seen her. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify her.

Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Madan Mohan.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Avinash Scrapwala.

Lyrics(Provided by Avinash Scrapwala)

Dil ko lagaayen ye gawaaraa bhi nahin
pyaar kiye bina guzaaraa bhi nahin
haaye
dil ko lagaayen ye gawaaraa bhi nahin
pyaar kiye bina guzaaraa bhi nahin

ankhiyaan na maane to dil kya kare
itna bataao ye jiye ya mare ae ae
ankhiyaan na maane to dil kya kare
itna bataao ye jiye ya mare ae
aur koi aisa waisa chaara bhi nahin
pyaar kiye bina guzaaraa bhi nahin
dil ko lagaayen ye gawaaraa bhi nahin
pyaar kiye bina guzaaraa bhi nahin

jaane lade kab nain re
jaata rahaa sab chain re ae ae he
jaane lade kab nain re
jaata rahaa sab chain re
kaun ye aaya dil ko churaaya
ghoom ke dekha to ishaara bhi nahin
hoye
dil ko lagaayen ye gawaaraa bhi nahin
pyaar kiye bina guzaaraa bhi nahin
ye dil ko lagaayen ye gawaaraa bhi nahin
pyaar kiye bina guzaaraa bhi nahin

baat hone waali to hoke rahegi
cheez khone waali to kho ke rahegi ee ee
baat hone waali to hoke rahegi
cheez khone waali to kho ke rahegi ee
ismein kasoor to hamaara bhi nahin
pyaar kiye bina guzaaraa bhi nahin
haaye
dil ko lagaayen ye gawaaraa bhi nahin
pyaar kiye bina guzaaraa bhi nahin

yeah

The lady lip syncing for the song is NISHI(/Nishi Kohli

and others I can identify Sunder,Rajendernath,Tuntun and a younger(a bloated version)of villain HIRALAL(the man who was hovering around Nishi)(Hiralal looks very fat, Am I right ??)

Lovely song. In the photo of Geetaji, who is the mandolin player? Looks like Sajjad Sb. Atul-ji, any guess?

The lady in question in the song dil ko lagaayen ye gawaara bhi nahin is Nishi, I remember seeing in some films from the 60’s I Dara Singh films. I like your detailed analysis of the songs and films. Thanks a lot for providing all these gems of information.

I’ve heard this song after decades……..I still remember it from my childhood. Looks like some of the instrumental portions were cut from the film version to fit the 78 rpm length limitations…….wish the audio of the video version was as strong as the audio one. Not Madan Mohan type of music, is it? Certainly worthy of OPN!! (At the risk of offending MM fans… my apologies).
