Atul Song-A-Day 10K Song Milestone Celebrations – 24
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
So, the countdown has already begun and now it’s time to celebrate one of the biggest milestone of this blog….10K songs. How appropriate it is to celebrate this special moment on it’s sixth b’day!! Celebration posts by many of you have already been posted on the blog and as all of you have said, I had also received Sudhirji’s request to send a special post to Atulji. Due to a family emergency, my post has been delayed and I apologize to Atulji for that. I am so privileged to be a part of this celebration and I am thankful to Atulji and Sudhirji for giving me this wonderful opportunity.
I would like to say how and when my association with this blog started.
In Sept 2011, I received an email from my uncle who lives in Texas about a collection of Hindi Movie songs since he was aware of my passion for them. The link that he sent to me was called “atulsongaday”. I ignored that email and soon completely forgot about it. After a few days, I got another email from my brother’s friend regarding the same subject and included the same link, “atulsongaday”. This time I got curious and clicked on the link. To my surprise, it was truly a collection of songs with all the known details and lyrics! The amount of information that I found was unbelievable, and the small details that were included with each song made this website a real treasure for me. I felt like I had found a precious jewel and started exploring more on who is writing the post, who is sending the lyrics, how a song is categorized, etc. I then stumbled upon the category “Lyrics contributed by readers,” and I realized that anyone can be part of this blog. If I remember correctly, it was Nov 2011 when I asked Atulji if I could be a contributor. He accepted my request and explained to me how I could be part of this wonderful team. The first song that I sent was “Aaj to meri hansi udaayi” from Gomati Ke Kinaare. The song was posted on the same day and this is how my journey with this blog started. It has been two years and eight months since I joined this group and since then I have met Sudhirji and Nitinbhai personally, had an opportunity to talk to Atulji, Sadanandji, Arunji and Bharatbhai on the phone and I feel fortunate and delighted to communicate with all the others via comments and personal emails. These admirers of Hindi music have given me so much information and I appreciate their words of encouragement which have inspired me contribute more. I have learned a lot about the Golden Era of Hindi Cinema and the history and contribution of actors, producers, directors, MDs, writers and singers. The wealth of information shared by all contributors on this blog makes it special as it cannot be found elsewhere.
On this special occasion, I congratulate Atulji, his team of contributors and all his fans on this blog. I am truly thankful to him for his devotion to this blog, sharing his valuable time with all of us and giving us the treasure trove of knowledge about Hindi music we have now. I will never be able to repay in the least amount the deep debt of gratitude I owe to him.
The song that I have selected as a word of gratitude “Dhanya bhaag seva ka awsar paaya” is from the movie Sur Sangam-85. It is pictured on Girish Karnad, Jaya Prada and a child artist which I am unable to identify (Urmila Matondkar?). Lyricist is Vasant Dev and composer is Laxmikant Pyarelal. Various websites give credit to Rajan/Sajan Mishra and Kavita Krishnamurthy as singers. I am not sure if both Rajan and Sajan are singing this classical piece.

Corrections please .
The name of the movie is SUR SANGAM,not “SANGAM” as mentioned in the tags attached to the song post.
And the other artiste in the song are Bharthi Achrekar,Deven Varma, Dina pathak,Sachin(with specs)-> in the audience section.
&
Paintal playing tabla and Sadhana Singh(playing tamboora)
And the child artiste is not a young Urmila Mathondkar(yes Urmila features in the movie for a few scenes with Asrani->playing the role of a loud mouthed musician).
But the child artiste who lip syncs for the song is AKASH SINGH.
And Khyati ji
Thank you for the song and beautiful post.
Regards
Prakash

lovely beautiful song. here is the Telugu version of it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWzIMlh6czk
PCji is right that Baby Urmila is there in the movie but not in this song. and Khyatiben is also right that her sister Mamta appears in this song at 1:32 as Girish Karnad looks lovingly at his daughter Sadhana singh.
of course the Hindi version didn’t do as well as the Telugu version. the telugu song is one which i love to sing but unfortunately i don’t know the meaning of the entire song. but mind it i have seen it in telugu and have its cassette (that was thanks to my Mom who knows the language since she was brought up in Vishakapatanam)
