“Kangan” (1959) was a Uma shankar Productions movie. It was directed by Nanabhai Bhatt. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Nirupa Roy, Bhagwan, Manhar Desai, Purnima, Daisy Irani, Shammi, Tiwari etc in it.

Six songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the seventh song from “Kangan”(1959) to appear in the blog.

This song is picturised on Nirupa Roy and Daisy Irani as a lullaby song. HFGK mentions Lata as the singer of the song but the voice appears like Usha Mangeshkar’s to me. I request our knowledgeble readers with keener ears to tell me if they too feel this way or do they consider it Lata’s voice. For the time being I have gone with the flow and considered Lata as the singer of this song though I feel that the voice sounds more like Usha Mangeshkar at places.

It seems that this song was only available in the picturised version and its record was not made.

Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Chitragupta.
PS-I am happy to report that a few regulars too feel that it is Usha Mangeshkar’s voice, so I have now attributed this song to Usha Mangeshkar.

Lyrics

Mere baale ki palkon mein aa
aa nindiya raani ho tera bhala
Mere baale ki palkon mein aa
aa nindiya raani ho tera bhala

soyee lahariya soye re kinaare
ankhiyaan jhapke chaand aur taare
soyee lahariya soye re kinaare
ankhiyaan jhapke chaand aur taare
tujhe taaron ki doli mein aa
aa nindiya raani ho tera bhala

Atul-ji,
I agree with you that the voice is not that of Lata. Though HFGK mentions it as the voice of Lata, ‘Gandhaar’, the ‘Viswas Nerurkar’s volume of Lata’s songs, shows only two songs of ‘Kangan’ in it, and this one is not one of them. I trust ‘Gandhar’ as more accurate volume.

Thanks for agreeing with me. It is not easy for people to take views contrary to the popular views. 🙂
