“Sitaron Se Aage”(1958) was directed by Satyen Bose. The movie had Ashok Kumar and Vyjyanti Mala in lead roles.
Five songs from this movie have been discussed in the past.
It is interesting to note that Vyjyanti Mala lip synced in not one or two voices but in three voices in this movie (in different songs of course). Lata, Asha Bhonsle and Geeta Dutt were the three singers who sang for her in this movie.
Here is the sixth song from the movie. This song is a stage dance song. It is sung by Lata and chorus and it is picturised on Vyjyanti Mala and others.
Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by S D Burman.

Beautiful and titillating song with an equally great dance performance by Vyjayantimala.
An interesting trivia about this song I read somewhere was that SDB wanted to re record the song as he was not fully satisfied with the outcome.
But Lata had her foreign tour commitments, and could not re record, leading to a five years separation between the two broken by Bimal Roy’s Bandini.

Atul ji,
You may be aware that during the recordings of songs of this film, S D Burman had a tiff with Lata Mangeshkar about giving him dates for recordings. After this incidence, Lata did not sing for S D Burman until in Bandini (1963). Probably, S D Burman had to take Asha Bhosle and Geeta Dutt for remaining songs of Vyjayantimala in this film.

Sadanand ji and arvindersharma ji,
The incident was- SDB was not satisfied with the song and wanted to re record it. To get Lata’s date , he asked his assistant then Jaidev to make the call. Now what was the talk between jaidev and lata and what Jaidev told SDB is all under wraps and never came out clearly. Lata however blamed Jaidev for miscommunicating to SDB and Jaidev swore that he only passed on the messages word by word. Anyway,SDB was so angry that he told Lata if she cant give dates now, she is not needed anymore. What was conveyed by Jaidev no one knows. But the fact is SDB and Lata did not work together for some time due to this.
Lata virtually boycotted Jaidev and stopped singing for him, barring Hum Dono, that too only to save Jaidev’s job.

Thanks for posting this memorable song. This song is a precursor to the more famous “sainya” number from Guide.

Knowing the ‘history’ of Lata’s ‘make and break’ relations with one and all MDs, I will NEVER blame simple soul Jaidevji for creating any problems. Her so called ‘boycott’ was not even apparent, as she sang after ‘Hum Dono’, for his even next film ‘Kinare Kinare’ onwards. (Which were the films she ‘boycotted’?)

Another of those sweet songs from Sachin Da – Lata combination.
Unbeatable.
Thanks a lot.
