“Daakoo Ki Ladki”(1933) was directed by Moti Gidwani for Imperial Films Company, Bombay. The movie had Sulochana, D Bilimoria, Ghulam Mohammad, Hadi, Laxmi, Saiyyad Ahmad, Ghulam Rasool etc in it.

This movie had 12 songs in it, but only one record was issued containg two songs of the movie. One of these songs have been discussed in the past. The song under discussion is the second of these two songs.

This song is sung by Zohra Jaan. Lyricist of the song is not known. This movie had two music directors, viz Pransukhlal Naik and Gadgil, but the music director for the song under discussion is not known.

I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this movie as well as on the picturisation of this song. I request our readers with keener ears to suggest corrections in the lyrics wherever applicable.

I hear the line as:
“kis par lalchaayaa ye diwaana’.

Thanks for the correct words.

I’m not hearing “par lalchaaya” (I can’t hear the R sound) but I do not know with certainty what I am hearing.

Atul ji,

There are few points about this song.

1. First of all the photo shown in the video is not from this film. This is from film Niti Vijay-1932 showing actress Zohra jaan,Mushtari and actor Khalil.( ref. Zoher gheewala albums)

2. Secondly how can this song be sung by Zohra, when she did not act in this film at all ?

3. Thirdly if one studies the number of Record it is N 6714, where as almost all other records issued for films of 1933 are in the range of 5000 to 5800 only in the N series. In fact till mid 1937, the N series does not cross even 6000 number.

4. This can lead to different conclusions. First I dont think this song is sung by Zohra jaan since she is not in the cast. If it is sung by her then probably this was a version song recorded much much later. The other side of this song is another song of Zohra with Aslam-who too was not in the cast of this film.

4. I think this is a case worth investigating for our dear Sudhir ji, since he knows so many collectors and also Hamraz ji who must be having the song booklet of this film.
