Today (26 december 2015) is the 96th birth anniversary of Naushad (26 december 1919-5 may 2006). Here is a song from “Station Master”(1942) on this occasion.

“Station Master”(1942) was one of the first movies of Naushad as a music director. Here are the details of this movie as shared by Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our beloved inhouse encyclopaedia:

STATION MASTER(1942), a Prakash pictures film was directed by Chimanlal Luhar, who was a stunt fim director in those days(Dynamite, Rambha Rani, Service limited, Captain Kirtikar, Silver king, Talash e haque, Vikram Charitra etc). While Naushad was the Music Director, lyrics were by P.L.Santoshi, Pt.Indra and B.R.Sharma. The story, screenplay and dialogues were written by Santoshi and V. Aundhkar.

The cast was Suraiyya, Prem Adeeb, Jeevan, Gulab, Amirbai, Jagdish Sethi, Kaushalya, Pratima, Shakir, Umakant Desai etc.

Jagdish Sethi has done the old Station master Paramanand’s role, Prem adeeb is Arun, the young guard and Ratnmala is Usha, the Station Master’s daughter.

Arun and Usha are in love, but wicked Manikbabu, booking clerk, induces the Station Master to marry Usha to Niranjan, a widower Traffic Superintendent. They marry. Manikbabu wants Arun to marry his half mad daughter Shyama (kaushalya).

There is a Train accident,in which Niranjan dies and Arun gets injured trying to avert the accident. All is well when the Station Master Paramanand is exonerated from the blame of accident due to the statement of Arun.

Arun and Usha sing a song and marry !

There were twelve songs in this movie. Eight songs from the movie have been discussed in the past. The song under discussion, which is the ninth song from “Station Master”(1942) is a light hearted song which is sung by Kaushalya. Pt. Indra Chandra is the lyricist. Music is composed by Naushad.

The song is picturised on Kaushalya who is seen teasing Prem Adeeb in the picturisation. I hope that I have identified the actors correctly. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify the actors correctly.

I have not been able to get a few words correct in the lyrics. I request our readers with keener ears to help fill in the blanks/ suggest corrections wherever applicable.

Seems ok. There was Suraiya also.

Quiz
Did Rafi sing with Saigal ever?

Did you know Naushad’s fav shair was Arzoo Lucknavi. He was impressed by his body of work.
However surprisingly he has not collaborated with him anytime. Correct me.
