“Dhaake Ki Malmal” (1956) was a Nanda Films Production. It was directed by J K Nanda. The movie had Kishore Kumar, Madhubala, Ulhas, Sajjan, Raj Mehra, Rajen Haksar, Shyam Kumar, Jagdeep, Om Prakash etc in it.

The movie had eight songs in it. Seven songs were composed by O P Nayyar and the eighth song was composed by Robin Chatterji.

All seven songs composed by O P Nayyar have already been discussed in the past. That leaves the one song from the movie which is composed by Robin Chatterji.

This song is a rare song which is sung by Manna Dey, Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar and chorus. D N Madhok is the lyricist.

YT has one link of this song but it is truncated after one minute and it is barely one stanza long. There are some uploaders who would deliberately upload only a fraction of the full song for reasons best known to themselves and would ignore requests to upload the full song.

Here is the full version of this rare song.

Only the audio of this song is available. My guess is that Kishore Kumar and Madhubala figure in this song alongwith others. I cannot guess who lip syncs in Manna Dey’s voice in this song. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.

I have not been able to get a few words right in the lyrics of this song. I request our readers with keener ears to help fill in the blanks/ suggest corrections wherever applicable in the lyrics of the song.

With this song, “Dhaake Ki Malmal”(1956) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Lovely song. Every singer has excelled. Asha’s voice so lyrical and lyrical. I think the song must have been offered to Robin Chatterjee due to his Bangla background and their penchant for naiya songs. So even in those days we had multi MDs!
Other song to remember Diya Toh Jala Sab Raat Re Balam sung by C. H. Atma penned by Saroj Mohini Nayyar

Congratulations Atul ji on covering all songs of ‘Dhaake Ki Malmal – 1956’ and its joining to the ‘list of movies-all songs covered’.
🙂 Yippee 🙂
