Yesterday (15 october 2016) was the birth anniversary of Shri Harish Raghuvanshi, HFM enthusiast etraordinaire. He was born on 15 october 1949 in Palghar. After completing his education in Mumbai, he shifted to Surat in 1967 and joined his family business there in 1968.

He needs no introduction among the regulars of HFM and amomg this blog. He is one of the pioneering historians of Hindi films and its music. He was one of the contributors who helped compile HFGK. He himself compiled Mukesh Geet Kosh, a definitive list of all the songs sung by Mukesh in all languages. It was published by Harmandir Singh Hamraj in 1985. It was only because of his work that we now have a reasonably accurate idea about the total number of songs sung by Mukesh.

Prior to the publications of Mukesh Geet Gosh (and also HFGK), fantastic claims used to be made about the number of songs sung by various singers and those claims were actually entertained and accepted by publications viz Guinness book of world records.

Shri Harish Raghuvanshi them compiled Gujarati Film Geet Kosh, which was the first such attempt to compile a geet kosh for films other than Hindi films. It contained list of all 539 Gujarati movies that were released from 1932 to 1994.

Shri Raghuvanshi is also a co author of a book of K L Saigal’s song compilation called “Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya”(2004).

Shri Harish Raghuvanshi believes in doing thorough reseach on topics related to films and he is a source of reliable and accurate information on this subject.

Shri Harish Raghuvanshi strongly believes that the contributions of pioneer artists of the past need to be acknowledged by the film industry, media as well as the public. His weekly column “Hindi Cinema Gujratai Mahima” in “Navrang”- a friday supplement in Gujarati newspaper “Divya Bhaskar” has served as a great source of information about the contribution of Gujarati artists in Hindi movies. Using some of this material, Shri Harish Raghuvanshi came up with a book “Inhen na bhulaana”(2003) where he covered 35 artists who have been forgotten with time.

Shri Harish Raghuvanshi is a regular of this blog and he helps our contributors by providing hard to find information about artists. Some of our regulars, viz. Arunkumar Deshmukh, Nitin Shah, Sudhir ji etc have made it a point to visit him in Surat and they were all accorded a warm reception by him at his residence.

Shri Harish Raghuvanshi is a source of inspiration for us in this blog and it gives me great pleasure to wish him a happy birthday (albeit belated). We wish him many happy returns of the day.

On this occasion, here is a song from “Ek Nazar”(1951). It is sung by Lata. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. Music is composed by S D Burman. I am sure Harish Raghuvanshi ji would fully empathise with the sentiments expressed in the song -“O jaane waale dekho hamen bhool na jaana.”

Song-O jaane waale dekho hamen bhool na jaana (Ek Nazar)(1951) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-S D Burman

o jaanewaale
dekho hamen bhool na jaana
dekho hamen bhool na jaana
laut ke aana
laut ke aana
dekho hamen bhool na jaana

din tadpaayega
raaten sataayegi
teri kasam
hamen neend na aayegi
din tadpaayega
raaten sataayegi
teri kasam
hamen neend na aayegi
tumne lagaai
tum hi bujhaana
jaane waale
dekho hamen bhool na jaana

o jaanewale
tujhko khabar hai
mera sahaara teri ek nazar hai
meri kasam tumhen laut ke aana
dekho hamen bhool na jaana
laut ke aana
laut ke aana
dekho hamen bhool na jaana

Happy Birthday. Long Live Harishji and help us to delve more deeply into the unknown and come with motis(gems).
He always enjoys welcoming people. Those who have not visited him are missing out on lot of info and the man whose passion for HFM is 24x7x365. Hats off to him

Wish you a very happy birthday, Harish Raghuvanshiji. And thank you so much for all that you’ve done over the years for HFM. It is only thanks to passionate and dedicated people like you, that the rest of us are able to have access to, and enjoy, HFM to the extent we can. Your contribution is more valuable than can be put in words. So, thank you

Many happy returns of the day Harishbhai. After returning from US, I have been trying to see you at Surat but since last one year I had some fracture and for about six months bed-ridden too. But I am determined to meet you sometime.

Belated Happy Birth Day to you, Harish ji.
May you have many more years of healthy life.
Your continued quest for the Hindi film music is an inspiration for all of us.

Happy belated birthday, Harish ji.
Wishing you All the Best ! 🙂
