Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Maai ne maai munder pe tere

This article is written by Peevesie’s mom, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a contributor to this blog. This article is meant to be posted in atulsongaday.me. Hullo to all in atuldom.

This kingdom called Atulsongaday is eight years complete and it is running in its ninth year. It has covered 12725 songs from 3570 movies out of which 850 have all their songs posted. This is no mean feat.

This brainchild of Atulji is a store house of lyrics.

“The blog discusses Bollywood songs of yesteryears. Every song has a brief description, followed by a video link, and complete lyrics of the song. This is a labour of love, where “new” songs are added every day”.

This was the premise with which the blog set out on a journey for which we can see no end. And I pray to god almighty that there never be and end. I am also thankful that the “well” from which the blog gets its resource is a huge one on which the environmental forces of global warming, drought or other such calamities don’t have any effect. And I am glad that ‘the well’ is always in line of ‘showers’ and ‘downpours’.

Another feature of the blog is that whoever visits it once does make repeated visits and stays with it.(I am sure this has been said a number of times on the many posts in the blog and this sentiment will always be mentioned any number of times in future too.)

There are a few visitors to the blog, like yours truly, who have not only got addicted to the blog and its contents but also made a set of friends among the (shall I say super-addict) 30 who arrived as visitors and have stuck on as contributors. And whenever one of the 30 has a birthday there is an attempt (on my part atleast) to try and wish the birthday girl/ boy with a song by or of the person’s favourite artist.

Definition of artist is – actor, singer, writer, director, music director, lyricist etc.

Now I know the question in some minds will be whose birthday it is today (23 december 2016) and some would have already remembered. This person is the guiding light of my journey into this kingdom of Atulsongaday. I have known her for more than two decades now. Her arrival into my life completed the family picture. She was my “gudiya”; my mom’s “cutie-pie”; my dad’s best friend and the pet of all in the family starting with her brother who was always her best friend till they both grew up into working adults and now I miss seeing the two of them huddle up together and plot against me and their father. I know for a fact that they also used to share their secrets with each other and might be missing those sessions. But they also always were like the cartoon characters Tom And Jerry. (But I suppose all siblings ought to be like that otherwise there is no fun in life.)

There was a song (many songs for that matter) that she used to love (not that she doesn’t love songs now). But this song she hummed a lot as a kid/ toddler. I remember we had gone as a ten member team to see this Rajshri Productions movie in a movie-hall in Chembur (we used to live there back then). The movie-hall was decked up as a wedding hall with all fairy lights etc. The movie had 15 songs with one particular song going through the movie (I have forgotten how many times it comes in the movie). But the song I am talking of today was my Peevesie’s favourite then and she used to sing it in her own unique way. The song is from the 1994 Sooraj Barjatya directed Salman- Madhuri starrer “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun” (I am sure everyone would have guessed what movie I was sourcing the song from.)

As is the practice with most Rajshri movies the song has the whole star-cast dancing to Madhuri’s song which has playback by Lata Mangeshkar and has Dev Kohli as lyricist and Raam Laxman the music directors.

The song has a very 1960s/70s feel about it with sly looks being exchanged between the lovers, and expressing feelings without the elders around even guessing what is happening under their nose. 😉

Waiting to wish our Peevesie personally, here is the song from “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun”(1994)

Song-Maai ne maai (Ham Aapke Hain Kaun)(1994) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Dev Kohli, MD-Ram Laxman
Female chorus
Male chorus

Lyrics

maai ne maai
munder pe tere
bol raha hai kaagaa
maai ne maai
munder pe tere
bol raha hai kaagaa
jogan ho gayi teri dulaari
man jogi sang laagaa

maai ne maai
munder pe tere
bol raha hai kaagaa
jogan ho gayi teri dulaari
man jogi sang laagaa

chann maahiya
chann maahiya
mere dol sipaaiya
chann maahiya
chann maahiya
mere dol sipaaiya

chaand ki tarah chamak rahi thhi
us jogi ki kaayaa
mere dwaare aakar usne
pyaar kaa alakh jagaaya
apne tan pe bhasm ramaa ke
apne tan pe bhasm ramaa ke
saari rain wo jaagaa
jogan ho gayi teri dulaari
man jogi sang laagaa

sun heeriye nach heeriye
nach ke rang jama
sun heeriye nach heeriye
nach ke dhoom macha

mannat maangi thhi toone
ik roz main jaaun biyaahi
us jogi ke sang meri
tu kar de ab kudmaayi
in haathon mein laga de mehandi
in haathon mein laga de mehandi
baandh shagun kaa dhaaga
jogan ho gayi teri dulaari
man jogi sang laagaa

maai ne maai
munder pe tere
bol raha hai kagaa
jogan ho gayi teri dulaari
man jogi sang laagaa
