Hullo Everybody

January seems to be the month when a few of the music composers of the Hindi film industry bid adieu to the mortal world. Naashad, RD Burman, C. Ramachandra, Jaidev, O.P.Nayyar, Sardar Malik etc all have their death anniversaries this month.

I don’t consider myself an authority to make any comment about the greatness of any of the above mentioned composers. But I surely love the music they have given to the listeners to relish and relax with.

Today is C. Ramachandra’s anniversary and I am 100% sure our in house encyclopedia and C.Ramachandra fan will be having a post ready which does full justice to the towering personality of Chitalkar/ Annasaheb/ Ram Chitalkar/ Shyamoo/ R.N.Chitalkar. I must confess that though I have been hearing songs by Chitalkar from the time I have been introduced to bollywood music I thought he was only a singer of songs like “Bholi Surat Dilke Khote Naam Bade Aur Darshan Chote”; “Kitna Haseen Hai Mausam” etc.

I always believed that C. Ramchandra who gave such fabulous music was a different person altogether. It was much later in life that I realized that it was the same person with different names. Last year when guruji came to Bangalore and he held forth on his pet music composer; he gave reasons for Chitalkar using various names.( I hope he repeats it here in the comments section even if he has written it in a biographical post of C. Ramachandra in the past.)

recently I discovered that a few movies which i believed had all their songs covered on the blog are in reality one or two songs away. Today i wish to rectify the situation in a small way.

“Asha” (1957) was a bi-lingual -In Tamil as “Athishaya Penn”- starring Vyjayanthimala as the female lead in both the versions. It was directed by M.V. Raman and produced by Raman Films. The movie had Kishore Kumar, Pran, Omprakash, Minu Mumtaz, and Lalitha Pawar. It had nine great songs penned by Rajinder Krishan of which our blog has six songs. Today we will have a lullaby by Asha Bhonsle with Minu Mumtaz Lip Syncing and using the Sitar as one would use the Guitar.
