Unlike advanced nations, preserving history is given little importance in India. Hindi film music is no exception. Governnment and Hindi movie industry, who naturally have the biggest say in this field have not taken any concrete steps to preserve (and share) the artifacts of this art form.

So, it is left to private individuals who through their efforts have managed to preserve it and who share it with other music lovers.

The advent of technology has made it easy for people of various interests, including HFM lovers, to keep in touch and interact with each other on subjects of mutual interest. There are lots and lots of HFM lovers who have formed acquaintances with each other and it has enabled faster and effective dissemination of HFM related information.

Internet has revolutionised this process. The number of online communities that discuss HFM have mushroomed in a way that could not have been imagined just two decades ago.

One of the very first online interaction of HFM lovers began with the formation of RMIM ( rec.music.indian.misc) during the jurassic era of online communication in 1992 on Usenet, a text-based medium predating the World Wide Web (www).

The users began to bond with each other and they held their first offline get together in New Jersey, USA in 1994.

Internet came into existence in 1995 in US and in subsequent years in the other countries. That caused gradual, and then revolutionary changes in the ways people could interact online.

RMIM group subsequently gave up usenet and moved on to facebook. Its members of course interact on other facebook groups, whatsapp groups etc as well.

RMIM has held several more get togethers since 1994. They have been held in places like San Jose, Denver, Washington DC, New Jersey, Ottawa, Portland, Suffolk, Chennai etc.

25 years have passed since RMIM came into existence. The latest get together of RMIM members is being held in Banagalore on 8th and 9th April 2017. The location is KAS Officers Association on Bhagavan Mahavira Road (Infantry Road).

Lots of music lovers, including some who have become legends in the field, are attending this get together.

The two day get together will discuss some important subjects related to HFM. This year in the birth centenary of C Ramchandra and RMIM will honour him by specifically showcasing his contributions in HFM. The agenda for the meet is here.

Fortunately, Bangalore is a place where lots of HFM lovers, including regulars of this blog, are present and they will be there, either as organisers or as participants. Our own Gajendra Khanna is among the organisers, and may be Sri Ganti too. Our regulars like Mr Shenoy, Raja, Peevesie’s mom etc will be there.

It was a great opportunity to meet likeminded music lovers, but sadly I will not be there. But I had promised to myself and the organisers that I too would participate in my own way, even if remotely. This writeup is my way of participating in the meet. I am told that today’s proceedings will be shared live on YT, so I will follow it. The meet is being held on weekend, so that is a great help to everyone to plan their weekends around this event.

C Ramchandra is the featured artist of this meet. I too will discuss him in this writeup here. According to my calculations, he composed 907 songs in 110 Hindi movies. This blog has 450 C Ramchnadra compositions from 92 movies. 27 of these movies have already been YIPPEED.

Most well known as well as not so well known C Ramchandra compositions have already been covered in the blog. No we are onto the lesser known C Ramchandra compositions.

It can be noticed that 18 movies with C Ramchandra’s music are yet to be covered in the blog. These are obscure movies whose songs are difficult to locate. They can find their way here as and when I am able to locate them.

On the occasion of this silver jubilee year RMIM get together at Bangalore, I am presenting a rare song from an as yet unrepresented movie in the blog. This movie is “Bachchon Ka Khel”(1946), which was directed by Raja Nene for Ramneek Productions, Bombay. This obscure movie had Baby Shakuntala, N Kabeer, Meena Kumari, Agha Jaan, Hemant Kulkarni, Nimbalkar, Harun, Shanta Patel etc in it.

The movie had ten songs in it that were penned by two lyricists.

Here is the first song from “Bachchon Ka Khel”(1946) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Vasanti and Vijaya. Magan is the lyricist. Music is composed by C Ramchandra, of course.

Only the audio of this song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the movie as well as on the picturisation of this song.

With this song, “Bachchon Ka Khel”(1946) makes its debut in the blog.

Song-Dekhe na kahin duniya jaane na zamaana(Bachchon Ka Khel)(1946) Singers-Vasanti, Vijaya, Lyrics-Magan, MD-C Ramchandra

Lyrics

hmm hmm hmm hmm
aa aa aa aa aa
dekhe na kahin duniya
hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm
dekhe na kahin duniya
jaane na zamaana
chupke se
chupke se
chupke se mere raaja
ho tum
ham ko bulaana aa
ham ko bulaana
dekhe na kahin duniya
jaane na zamaana
chupke se mere raaja
ho tum
ham ko bulaana aa
ham ko bulaana

tum ho meri lailaa
meri lailaa
tum ho mere majnu
mere majnu
us paar bhala tumse
alag kaise rahoon main
us paar bhala tumse
alag kaise rahoon main
is paar tumhaari judaai
kaise sahoon main
is paar tumhaari judaai
kaise sahoon main
kuchh dhoondhh liya karna
milne ka bahaana
chupke se
chupke se
chupke se mere raaja
ho tum
ham ko bulaana aa
ham ko bulaana
dekhe na kahin duniya
jaane na zamaana
chupke se mere raaja
ho tum
ham ko bulaana aa
ham ko bulaana

insaan akele mein
taaron ke ujaale mein
insaan akele mein
taaron ke ujaale mein
chehre pe hansi hogi
aankhon mein khushi hogi
chehre pe hansi hogi
aankhon mein khushi hogi
ham do dilon ki duniya
kuchh aisi basi hogi
ham do dilon ki duniya
kuchh aisi basi hogi

kuchh aise laga hoga
ye dil ka lagaana
chupke se
chupke se
chupke se mere raaja
ho tum
ham ko bulaana aa
ham ko bulaana
dekhe na kahin duniya
jaane na zamaana
chupke se mere raaja
ho tum
ham ko bulaana
ham ko bulaana

The song was picturised on Baby Shankutala and N Kabir in the roles of Vasanti (11 years) and Vijay (12 Years) respectively in the film. [Source: Filmindia, July 1946 issue].

In my view, the song may have been rendered by some unknown singers. The Vasanti and Vijay are the names of the characters in the film.

Thanks for the information. Seeing that Vasanti and Vijay are names of the characters in the movie, information in HFGK and elsewhere needs to be corrected.

In 1946, many songs records used to bear the names of the characters in the films on whom the songs were picturised.

I have a mp3 clip of another song from ‘Bachchon Ka Khel (1946) -‘aaye aaye hain sapne’ for which the song has been credited to Anuradha. Actually, the name of Meena Kumari’s character in the film was Anuradha.

Thanks Atulji for introducing RMIM. I was not aware of it till received an invitation from Gajendraji. Wish I could join the meet.
