Missing Films of 1960s – 37
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Aah so, new year resolutions – just like carrying heavy burdens. It is only so far that one can haul them. Some can lug them short distances, some can lug them for longer distances. And only rarely can one continue to bear a resolution, on and on.

Atul ji’s tenacity is a legend by now. Maybe not all resolves, but at least he has been able to maintain the ‘no-dot-days’ resolution for, now let us see – the last dot-day on record is 7th September, 2016. Wow – we now have a string of 484 days of continued posting, which translates to 1 year, 3 months 28 days. This blog has been updated with at least one new song every day, without a break – for the past 1 year, 3 months and 28 days continuously (the calculation includes the two end dates of this time period). There have been other breaks in earlier months of 2016 itself. There may or may not be a longer unbroken string of days prior to 2016, but that has to be checked in detail. I have not yet completely researched all the periods, prior to this duration.

So, 1 year, 2 months and 28 days – and counting. This one resolution has really stood the test of time and, I am sorry to repeat but I must – it displays Atul ji’s determination and persistence. 🙂

In his post from day before, he also discussed the resolution relating to debut films and yippeee films. Now these become slightly more complex endeavors. To quote an old adage – “great is the art of beginning, but greater is the art of ending”. I am sure you have caught on to what I am leading to. Yes, it is easier to debut films, but it is much harder to yippeee them 😀 😀 .

There still are a few thousand films that are waiting to make a debut on our blog. But then, that is the easy part. One can catch hold of one song of a film, and voila – the debut is accomplished. But then to yippeee a film – well that is a different game altogether. We take HFGK as our reference. But we know that there is a huge share of films for which all songs are not yet traceable in public domain. And so the trudging pursuit continues, for many a film, where all songs are not available. To top this – i.e. to make it slightly more complicated, there is a fair number of films listed in HFGK, where the list of songs is not complete, and there are known cases where we have discovered unlisted songs, and even unlisted films. 🙂

So all this analysis, I assure you, makes for a very fascinating and sometimes even intriguing journey ahead. . .
All Aboard ??

🙂  🙂  🙂

And so pitching in for a the debut films – at least one-a-day. Now that brings up another interesting thought – this should make for a micro-blog within the blog – ADSAD – Atul’s-Debut-Song-a-Day. 😀 😀 Hopefully so. Let us see how far we can carry this now.

So. . . I am sure when you start reading one of the episodes of this series, you can be rest assured that the post carries a debut song. That is what this series is all about. And you must also be aware as to how this series came about. This is my homework assignment, allocated to me by Ben Katie (or Khyati Behn for those may not be familiar with the coding scheme of the Mastermind’s gang 🙂 ). Missing films – implying that this film is making its first appearance on the blog.

Today’s film is ‘Professor Aur Jaadugar’ from 1966. Now this film is one of those obscure productions that came and went without catching any attention. The film is produced under the banner of Tripil Films, Bombay. I am sure the investors meant this to be ‘Triple’, but then the copywriter probably did not have a spellchecker handy in those days. The director of the film is Sultan. Music director – another debut apparently. The name is Sardar Singh. For that period, it seems this is the only film in which this name appears. Other than an unreleased film titled ‘Baghaawat’, that was apparently attempted sometimes in 1960s. Outside of these two mentions, the name of Sardar Singh does not appear anywhere in the Geet Kosh.

Six songs are listed for this film. The lyricists name is listed as Anjaan. But there is an additional noting specifically for this song – the lyricist name is listed as K Malik. Once again, another name for which I am not able to locate another listing, other than this solitary song. I request our knowledgeable readers to please add more information if available, for the music director and lyricist.

The film is of the stunt genre with a cast of actors listed as Indira Billi, Indrajeet, Khursheed, Indira Bansal, Bob, Poonam Kapoor, Dalpat, Prince Arjun, Jilani and another score of names that are totally unfamiliar.

The singing voice in this song is that of Mubarak Begum. This is a nazm, with a structure of three lines per antaraa (so it is not a ghazal). But surely, this sounds endearing, both for the words written and the manner in which rendered by Mubarak Begum. Soft and relatively simple rendition, that makes it attractive.

As I was preparing for this post, I listened to the set of five songs that I have from this film. The choice of this song is driven in part by the fact that this song is already available on YT. Rest assured that the other songs are also very attractive in their own right, especially a lovely duet sung by Mahendra Kapoor and Usha Mangeshkar. But more of that as time progresses. Meanwhile, sit back and listen to, and enjoy this rare song, one of the rarer ones by Mubarak Begum.

Song – Khud b Khud Ishq Ka Izhaar Hua Jaata Hai  (Professor Aur Jaadugar) (1966) Singer – Mubarak Begum, Lyrics – K Malik, MD – Sardar Singh

Lyrics

khud b khud ishq ka izhaar hua jaata hai
khud b khud ishq ka izhaar hua jaata hai
sach kahen aap se. . .
sach kahen aap se kuchh pyaar hua jaata hai
khud b khud ishq ka izhaar hua jaata hai

aap bhi apni nigaahon ko zara samjha den
is tarah pyaar se mujhko dekha na karen
husn e masoom. . .
husn e masoom gunehgaar hua jaata hai
khud b khud ishq ka izhaar hua jaata hai

hum jafaa ishq ka dastoor na hone denge
pyaar ko itna bhi majboor bhi na hone denge
zulm kaisa mere. . .
zulm kaisa mere sarkaar hua jaata hai
khud b khud ishq ka izhaar hua jaata hai

husn ki shaan na jalwon ke tamaashe le kar
hum to aaye hain ulfat ke taqaaze le kar
dil haqeeqat ka. . .
dil haqeeqat ka talabgaar hua jaata hai
khud b khud ishq ka izhaar hua jaata hai
