Hullo Atuldom

“Amardeep” (1958) had 12 songs 9 of which are on the blog. Le lo le lo gubbaare was the last song posted from this movie exactly two years ago on this date.

Here is the next song in the voice of Asha Bhonsle which is a dance by Vyjayanthimala. It is the opening scene of the movie and comes immediately after the titles are over. It gives the background of the character played by Vyjayanthimala who plays Aruna and her grandfather wants her to marry Pran. But this is an Indian movie where the lady will find someone better (according to her) than the person selected by the family. It is a different matter that since time immemorial, Indian marriages have mostly been arranged marriages where the girl and the boy would hardly know each other till they got married and started family life. And since they began making movies in India, we have had love stories where there is lot of action in the form of family opposition, two people in love with the same person or any other possible obstacles that will help build a movie to close to 180 minutes of running time.

So we can safely say that movies are all make believe. But we still feel that movies reflect real life.

Sorry to have digressed into a sermon regarding the make-believe nature of movies. What I wanted to say was Aruna (Vyjayanthimala) finds Ashok (Dev Anand) better than Pran. And there is the addition of an accident in the story which makes Ashok lose his memory and the girl (Padmini) who tends him in his illness falls in love with him. But he is non-committal. The next twist is the two girls turn out to be sisters separated in childhood. And in the climax when all the twists unravel one of the sisters decides to sacrifice her life so that the hero can live for her sisters’ happiness.

I am not an expert at writing about movies prior to 1975, there are other ideal persons for that, among the regular contributors of the blog, who help Atulji build-up the data base that this blog is getting transformed into. Today (9th June) is the birth-date of one of them. He goes by the name Shri. Arunkumar Deshmukh but is better known as the in-house encyclopedia among the followers of the blog. He is meticulous about getting details of the subjects that he writes about. He may have been engaged in the corporate world before retirement but is a writer in reality. He has followed his hobby/ passion – movies- wholeheartedly and once he got a hang of how to handle the World-Wide-Web or internet as it is called and finds the information that is needed to bring to light lesser -known artists, artists with same name, and a whole bunch of other topics which are close to his heart. His posts are treasures of information. I must stop writing about him as this modest gentleman is not used to hearing or reading about himself.

I end my post as always by wishing “Guruji”- as I like to address him; A Very Happy Birthday. May we have lot more posts from you and may the river of information that you provide never dry up. Thank You for being our ready-reckoner

raama ho
raama ho

khwaabon mein koi aane lagaa
dil churaane lagaa
dil churaane lagaa
khwaabon mein koi aane lagaa
dil churaane lagaa
dil churaane lagaa
kya keejiye
haaye dil haath se jaane lagaa
hoye jaane lagaa
koi reh jaaye na gale ka haar ban ke
koi reh jaaye na gale ka haar ban ke
koi dil mein samaa na jaaye pyaar banke
