Hullo Atuldom

“Qatl”, produced and directed by R K Nayyar released in 1986, was a crime story adapted from the American TV movie ‘In Broad Daylight’ (1971). It was one of the first releases of Sanjeev Kumar’s after his passing. It had music by Laxmi-Pyare and songs were written by Rajinder Krishan (4) and Anand Bakshi (1). The playback singers used were Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Anup Jalota and Kavitha Krishnamurthy. The cast was Sarika, Ranjeeta, Plioo Wadia, Sanjeev Kumar, Marc Zuber, Shatrughan Sinha and Ashok Kumar.

The story revolved around fidelity, loyalty. It was the story of romance between an actor-director (Rakesh-Sanjeev Kumar) and his heroine (Rohini-Sarika). Just that the heroine is in love with her producer and theatre owner (Ranjeet-Marc Zuber) too. Sanjeev Kumar marries Sarika, and one day at a rehearsal there is a freak accident and Rakesh looses his sight in saving Rohini. The blind Rakesh learns to cope with life and blindness with the aide of his nurse (Sita -Ranjeeta) appointed by Rohini so that she can resume theatre. During one of the reheasals, the blind Rakesh discovers Rohini and Ranjeet’s secret meetings and their affair and is heartbroken. That is when today’s song happens.

One song from the movie has been posted. We are having the next song to remember our dear Harihar Jethalal Jariwala a.k.a Sanjeev Kumar a.k.a Thakur Baldev Singh on his 83rd birth anniversary. He was such a versatile actor that he played a young lover to his heroines as well as their father/ father-in-law as he did with Jaya Bhaduri and Sharmila Tagore. But of course he had most of the heroines of the 70s and 80s as his leading lady be it Mumtaz, Waheeda Rehman, Rakhee, Hema, Rekha, Moushumi etc; even Zeenat Aman played his romantic interest in a movie or two. He had the opportunity to enact nine different characters in “Naya Din Nayi Raat”. He had great comic timing and “Angoor” directed by Gulzar was the best example of it. He was a two time National Best Actor Award winner viz. : 1971 for “Dastak” and 1973 for “Koshish”. He was nominated for 14 Filmfare Awards -thrice as Best Supporting actor and the rest for Best Actor. He won the award thrice – for “Shikar” (supporting actor 1969) and “Aandhi” and “Arjun Pandit'” (best actor 1976, 1977).

Here is wishing that this talented actor was still among us. 🙏

Song-Kahaan jaa rahaa thha kahaan aa gaya hoon (Qatl)(1986) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

kahaan jaa raha thha
kahaan aa gaya hoon
kahaan jaa raha thha
kahaan aa gaya hoon
na mujhko pata hai
na dil ko khabar hai
koi ibtida na
koi intahaa hai
safar ye mohabbat ka kaisa safar hai
kahaan jaa raha thha
kahaan aa gaya hoon
kahaan jaa raha thha

woh rangeen naghma kahaan kho gaya hai
woh rangeen naghma kahaan kho gaya hai
mera saaz khaamosh kyon ho gaya hai
woh jazbaa jo mushkil se maine jagaaya
woh phir jaagte jaagte so gaya hai
na jhonka hawa ka na pehli si khushboo
ye phoolon ki basti ya kaanton ka ghar hai
kahaan jaa raha thha
kahaan aa gaya hoon
kahaan jaa raha thha

woh jis ke liye ye andhere khareede
woh jis ke liye ye andhere khareede
ujaale ki keemat bhi uss ko bata doon
kabhi zindagi ki dua di thhi jisko
usey bewafai ki kyun na sazaa doon
usse bewafai ki kya main sazaa doon
sazaa doon
sazaa doon
yahaan se na aane na jaane ka rasta
magar qatl ke vaaste rah-guzar hai
magar qatl ke vaaste rah-guzar hai
magar qatl ke vaaste rah-guzar hai
magar qatl ke vaaste ae ae ae
rah-guzar hai
