Today 27th June, 2022 is the eighty-third birth anniversary of Rahul Dev Burman. On our blog we already have few posts coming on this occasion. However, I was looking for a song written by Majrooh Sultanpuri who had a long association with RD Burman. Also, I wish that I should share a song sung by Kishore Kumar because the songs I shared for today didn’t have any Kishore Kumar songs.
So, here I am presenting a song from the 1980 movie ‘Aanchal’. And incidentally this happens to be a song picturized on Rajesh Khanna. I think this is a ‘bonus’ song for today’s celebration.
‘Aanchal’ was directed by Anil Ganguly for Bemisal Films Pvt Ltd. It was produced by Prem Lalwani and Mohan Lalwani. It had Rajesh Khanna, Rakhee Gulzar, Rekha, Prem Chopra, and Amol Palekar, with Leela Mishra, Shammi, Dinesh Hingoo, Ranjana Sachdev, Birbal, Sarita Devi, Asit Sen, Swapan Guha, Amol Sen, Deepak, Master Ravi, Lekha Chauhan, Master Sandeep, Suresh Desai, Saukat Bharti, Jankidas, Rajkishore, Viju Khote, and others. Abhi Bhattacharya had a friendly appearance in this movie.
Story of this movie was written by Tara Shankar Bandopadhya, and dialogues were written by Ehsan Rizvi. Screenplay of this movie was written by Sachin Bhowmick. Editing of this movie was done by Waman Bhonsle and Gurudutt Shirali. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 18.09.1980.
This movie has six songs. Lyrics for the songs in this movie are written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and music is composed by RD Burman. Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, and Swapan Chakravarty had given their voices to the songs in this movie.
One song from this movie “Paise Ka Kaajal Daike Na Lo Hamri Jaan“ has already been discussed on the blog on 18.07.2018. This post was presented by our beloved Raja Saab and here is a brief about this movie he had mentioned in his write-up.
The film stars Kaka, Rekha, Raakhee, Amol Palekar and Prem Chopra. It’s a village-based story, where Kaka and Amol Palekar are brothers, with Raakhee married to Amol Palekar. Since Kaka is her husband’s younger brother, Raakhee treats him with great affection. Kaka too has highest regard for his bhabhi. Prem Chopra, who has a score to settle with Amol Palekar, plays mischief, creating misunderstanding in his mind about the relationship between Raakhee and Kaka. Also, doing the same to Rekha, who is in love with Kaka.
To be honest, the film picks up only in the second half – the first half is rather slow. But maybe it is a build-up to show the relationships between the characters. I was rather keen for the film to get on with the plot.
We will be discussing the details about the other songs in this movie in the future posts on the blog. Regarding the songs from this movie, I think “Bas Meri Jaan Bas. . . Maan Le Meri Baat”, “Paise Ka Kaajal Daike Na Lo Hamri Jaan“, and “Bhor Bhaye Panchhi” were well known songs from this movie. Though the overall musical score is good and other songs from this movie also needs to be listened, like the song today.
Today’s song is sung by Kishore Kumar and on screen it is Rajesh Khanna performing on this song with other artistes also seen in the picturization of this song. As mentioned above lyrics are by Majrooh Sultanpuri and music is composed by RD Burman.
Let us listen to and enjoy the today’s song now …

raja adhoora raani bina
ho jeewan aadha to diya re bitaaye
aisaa rangeen samaa haaye re

ab to kahin se koi aaye re
saathi na yaar koi
jhagda na pyaar koi
raahi akela chalaa jaaye re ae ae
aisaa rangeen samaa haaye re
ab to kahin se koi aaye re
saathi na yaar koi
jhagda na pyaar koi
raahi akela chalaa jaaye re ae ae
raahi akela chalaa jaaye re ae ae
ae lo
ham ghode se gir gaye
hi hi

Dear Avinash ji,
Good to see you so active on ASAD these days. Please keep up the good work.
As you would be knowing, the Bangla version of the story was “CHAMPA DANGAR BOU”, starring Uttam Kumar, Sabitri Chatterjee and Anubha Gupta in the roles essayed by Kaka, Rekha and Rakhee respectively. The Film was released in 1954.
With warm regards

Thanks Partha ji for reading the post and your comments on the same.
Yes, I had read that the Bangla version of ‘Aanchal’ came in 1954 and it was titled as ‘Champadangar Bou’. But, since I want to read more about it in detail I didn’t mentioned this in my write-up.
Thanks for appreciating my ‘activeness’ on the blog, but it became possible only because of Sudhir jee giving his time to post these write-ups. I was not aware that Atul ji will not be able to take posts and had actually sent four posts to Sudhri jee for yesterday. Finally we have to drop one RD song write up that can be posted later. 🙂
Thanks and regards,
Avinash
