“Chehra”(1946) was an obscure movie. Very little information is available on this movie. Our inhouse encyclopeadia, Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, while discussing a song from this movie, had shared some rare information about this movie.
According to those details, T”Chehra”(1946) was directed by Rajendra Sharma for Upright pictures, Bombay. The movie had Najma, Kamal Jamindar, Suraiya Zulfi, Mustafa, Jugal Kishore, Kneez, Baby Anwari, Baldev Raj etc. All these actors were small time actors. The Suraiyya Zulfi in this movie was different from the famous Suraiyya.
This movie, which was released in 1947, flopped badly. The movie had nine songs and these songs ended up being forgotten. Even HFGK could not get much details about the songs of the movie. Singers of most of the songs were unknown according to HFGK. Gradually, the songs of this movie have become available online. This blog already contains four songs out of nine.
Here is the fifth song from “Chehra”(1946). HFGK is silent about the singer. Listening to the song , it is clear that it is sung by Shamshad Begam and chorus. I C Kapoor is the lyricist. Music is composed by M A Mukhtaar.
The lyrics are quite raunchy to listen to. Those days, songs with this kind of lyrics sometimes faced the ire of the censores. Apparently, this song had no such problem, seeing that this as well as other songs of this movie were hardly played on radio or loudspeakers so few people were even aware of these songs.
Only audio of the song is available. So it is difficult to guess how and on whom this song was picturised.
