“Hanuman Janmotsav” is being celebrated today all over in our country. Many mythological movies have been made earlier where the character of Hanuman has been a part of such movies.
As a growing child we are easily attracted towards the character of Hanuman given the nature and actions of the character in the mythological stories. For me it has been always a fascinating experience to watch Hanuman on the big screen. The movies I get to watch in my childhood have left an indelible impression on mind especially of the role of Hanuman played by the actor Dara Singh. I have earlier presented the songs from the movie ‘Barjrangbali-1976’ on the blog. The songs from this movie bring back memories for me and are pure nostalgia for me.
I must have watched other mythological movies too but do not remember them.
Today I am presenting a song on this occasion which is a ‘ram stuti’ bhajan rendered by Hanuman in the movie. This is from the movie ‘Hanumaan Vijay-1974’. This song is a well-known bhajan I think and I remember to have listened to it on radio earlier. I was surprised that this song is so far missing from the blog. This song is in the voice of Mohd Rafi.
“Hanumaan Vijay-1974” was directed by Babubhai Mistry for ‘Basant Pictures’. It had Ashish Kumar, Kanan Kaushal, (again the famous pair of ‘Jai Santoshi Maa-1975’), Sujata, Hercules, Manhar Desai, Rajkumar, Wasti, Asha Potdar, Maruti, Anant Marathe, Gauri Verma, Mona, Uma Dutt, Kedar Sehgal, Dhanraj, Moolchand, Shri Bhagwan, Abdul Ghani, Ajit Soni, Munne Singh, Jairam Desai and others.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 17.05.1974.
I was just above six years old when this movie must have been released. I do not remember to have watched this movie unlike my vivid memory of having watched of ‘Bajrangbali’ which was released two years later.
Here is a brief about the plot of this movie ‘Hanumaan Vijay-1974’ as taken from IMDB.
Ahiravan was a powerful sorcerer who had mastered the dark arts, and ruled the netherworld (Patal) with his brother Mahiravan. He was a great devotee of Goddess Kamaksha from whom he had obtained vital occult secrets. After Meghnath and Kumbhakaran are killed in battle, Ravan summons Ahiravan to take care of Shri Ram and Lakshman once and for all. Ahiravan kidnaps both Ram and his brother Lakshman while they are sleeping and whisks them off to his subterranean kingdom Patalpuri where he holds them captive. He left behind, in place of their bed, a dark trail stretching deep into the bowels of the earth. When Hanuman learns of this, he dives into the tunnel and makes his way to Patal. There he finds the two brothers with their arms bound, ready to be sacrificed at the altar of Goddess Kamaksha. With the aid of some unlikely allies and his own wit, Hanuman saves the day once again.
‘Hanumaan Vijay-1974’ has five songs in it. Three songs were penned by Madan and two two songs by B.D. Mishra.
Music for this movie was composed by Ajay-Vishwanath.
As mentioned above today we listen to a song sung by Mohd Rafi which is performed on screen by Hercules (playing Hanuman in the movie). He is singing bhajan and praising lord Ram mentioning the various incarnations of God Ram. We are well aware that Hanuman has a ‘special bond’ with his lord Ram and he always loves praising his lord. Watching Hanuman praising his lord is one of the most divine experience and the emotions are very well captured here in this song.
There are many other artistes shown in the picturisation of this song other than Hercules whom I am unable to identify (especially the artistes playing the key characters).
I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.
