“Hoor e Baghdad”(1946) was directed by F M Khan for Mohan Pictures, Bombay. This movie, described as स्वप्न चित्र , had Shiraz, Devraj, Fazlu, Khanchand, Gareeb Shah, A Siddiqui, Fateh Singh, Ayyaz Begam, Anwari Bai, Miss Mumtaz etc.
F M Pindvi was the lyricist and Damodar Bhai Sharma was the music director.
There were ten songs in the movie whose songs were released on 78 rpm records by Columbia records. Record numbers are given for five songs in HFGK. Names of singers are not known for any of the songs.
However, one song from the movie has been covered in the blog two years ago that too a song whose record number was not mentioned in HFGK. That song turned out to be a Rafi song. That way it was like discovering an unknown Rafi song.
Off late, some more songs from this movie have been uploaded by kind record collectors. It turns out that there are quite a few Rafi songs in this movie whose existence was not known.
Likewise, this movie seems to have some Amirbai Karnataki songs as well and these songs too are “new” discoveries.
Here is a song from “Hoor e Baghdad”(1946) which is sung by Amirbai Karnataki and female chorus. Only audio of the song is available so it is difficult to say how and on whom this song is picturised. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the movie as well as on the picturisation of the song.
The song under discussion is uploaded by renowned record collector Mr Girdharilal Vishwakarma of Jodhpur. He has also shared the record label of the song. I found it amusing to read the notice on the label “This patented copyright record must not be publicly performed without license.” What does this mean ? That this record should not be played in public (like on loudspeakers) without obtaining a license ? What a self defeating decision. If people are prohibited from playing these records in public function then who is going to buy these records except die hard record collectors. No wonder even the details of singers of this movie were not known till recently.

Only audio of the song is available so it is difficult to say how and on whom this song is picturised. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the movie as well as on the picturisation of the song. Going by the abovementioned notice, this song was not played publicly and so this song, like other songs of the movie were quickly forgotten.
