10th October is the date when Rekha (born Bhanurekha) turns a year older.
Rekha, who made a debut in films as a teenage, first in telugu followed by Kannada & Hindi, has been seen in close to 180 films. She has also acted in a Bhojpuri film. She had given her voice to characters played by Smita Patil, that were at the dubbing stage & left incomplete due to Smita’s death. She has also tried her hand at singing, she didn’t sound bad.
The first actor who was her male lead, in Hindi films, was Biswajeet (in a film that had a late release). Navin Nischol was her hero in “Saawan Bhaadon” (in 1970) that was her first release. She was cast opposite Rajendra Kumar, Sanjay Khan, Rajkumar, Sunil Dutt and other such senior actors of that time. Possibly Vinod Khanna, Vinod Mehra, Jeetendra, etc were the first actors from the younger set of heroes of that time who were paired with her. From then on, she has come a long way & towards the end of her career she played a negative character-in ‘Khiladiyon ka Khiladi’ – who falls in love with the hero (Akshay Kumar) who is actually in love with her sister.
The following is the posts I have written over the years ( on this date 10 october) to wish the actress whose work I used to like & still stop surfing the channels when I spy any program or movie featuring Rekha. The first in the series, that was posted on 10 october 2016 was a post which combined Navaratri and the birthdates of Amitabh Bachchan & Rekha.

As can be seen from the above I have found a song with a different hero everytime. Today’s song is a little different. Here she is not pairing with any actor but with another actress of the time when she was a TOP heroine; actually both the ladies were top-billed actresses in the same period. Both the ladies started their journey in the film-world in the same year, only difference being that one of them had her mother as a chaperone. Both these actresses were portrayed as rivals & always cast alongside the same actors as their heroes. Both these ladies had hit movies when paired opposite Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Jeetendra, Shashi Kapoor or even Rishi Kapoor or Shatrughan Sinha (which was unusual for the concerned ladies).
“Sadiyaan” (2010) was a movie directed by Raj Kanwar and produced by Bikramjit Mann Singh & Raj Kanwar. It had music by Adnan Sami and Samir & Amjad Islam Amjad were the lyricists. Adnan Sami, Richa Sharma, Shaan, Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chauhan, Rekha Bharadwaj, Mika Singh, Kunal Ganjawala, & the Sabri Brothers were the singers used for the 8 songs.
Rekha & Hema Malini played mother to Luv Sinha ( Shatrughan Sinha’s son). Surprised that I have mentioned the two ladies as “mother” of a single character- well one was the biological -mother other the mother who saw the child grow into a man (something like Devaki-Yashoda-Krishna).
The story was set in the post partition period- when the childless couple (Rishi Kapoor & Rekha) abandon their home across the border come to India & find a baby who has been left behind by parents who fled the country in a hurry, in the house they occupy. The baby grows up to be Luv Sinha who falls in love with a beautiful girl. Objections arise when it is found that the girl is a Muslim & the boy is not. That is when Rishi Kapoor & Rekha reveal that they are not the biological parents. They set out to trace the parents (Hema Malini & Javed Sheikh) The girl’s parents immediately agree to the marriage when the boy’s real parents visit their house. What complications arise when Ishaan’s parents start making plans to take Ishaan and his bride back to Pakistan and how they are handled by the principal characters forms the rest of the plot.
The song happens during the wedding rituals of haldi etc. The song sung by Richa Sharma is lip-synced by a lady I cannot identify but the two mothers are ecstatic that their son is becoming a dulha but Rishi Kapoor (the father) is seen to be sad & so is Rekha towards the end of the song.
The male vocals in the song are of the Sabri Brothers.
Wishing the still-oh-so- BEAUTIFUL Rekha a very happy birthday on her 70th birthday ( 🤔 Is she that old? Really?)
