“Ehsaan”(1970) was produced by S J Rajdeo and directed by Shiv Kumar for Sargam Chitra, Bombay. The movie had Joy Mukherjee, Anjana, Rajendranath, Helen, Shabana, Aruna Irani, K.N. Singh, Madan Puri, Bipin Gupta, Sunder, Tuntun, Johny Whisky, Sulochana Chatterjee, Azad, Sheri, Renu, Rajan Kapoor, and wonder child Bobby in it. They were supported by Shri Bhagwan, Viju Khote, Uma Dutt, Kamal Deep, P.K. Naidu, Dhanraj, Haroon, Bhagwan Sinha, Prince Arjun, Moolchand and dogs Roxy & Rani.

The movie had lots of cabarat dances/ club dances in it. Helen, who normaally got one cabarat dance in a movie had a very long and important role in this movie.
Helen typically lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice. But in this movie she lip synced a seduction song in Lata Mangeshkar’s voice !
To make matters complicated, this movie had a cabarat dance song sung by Asha Bhonsle and picturised not on Helen, but on Aruna Irani ! Helen is present in this song as part of the onlookers.
That is not all. Later on, Helen too gets to perform another cabarat dance song in Asha Bhonsle’s voice. This cabarat dance also serves the purpose of diversion. While she is performing the dance, our hero (Joy Mukherjee), a burglar, is seen stealing a top secret file of Indian government, which is kept in a safe in the house of the Indian government official. Clearly, the government security arrangements in India half a century ago used to be a joke. 🙂
Here is this dance song which is the sixth and final song from “Ehsaaan”(1970) to appear in the blog. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman.
