(Asha Bhonsle’s 92nd birthday 8th September 2025)
Today 8th September 2025 is the ninety-third birthday of legendary singer of Hindi Films – Asha Bhonsle. On this occasion we are celebrating her birthday by presenting some songs sung by her here on this blog. Though I had mentioned in my first post today that I will be sharing songs sung by Asha Bhonsle from different collaborations, songs presented by me form this post onwards will have the same composer viz. R.D. Burman with different lyricists. 🙂
In this post I am presenting a lesser heard song sung by Asha Bhonsle from the movie ‘Aanchal-1980’.
“Aanchal-1980” was directed by Anil Ganguly for Bemisal Films Pvt Ltd. Prem Lalwani and Mohan Lalwani were the producers of this movie. “Aanchal-1980” was passed by Censor Board on 18.09.1980. And, it had Rajesh Khanna, Rakhee Gulzar, Rekha, Prem Chopra, and Amol Palekar, with Leela Mishra, Shammi, Dinesh Hingoo, Ranjana Sachdev, Birbal, Sarita Devi, Asit Sen, Swapan Guha, Amol Sen, Deepak, Master Ravi, Lekha Chauhan, Master Sandeep, Suresh Desai, Saukat Bharti, Jankidas, Rajkishore, Viju Khote, and others. Abhi Bhattacharya had a friendly appearance in this movie. Story of this movie was written by Tara Shankar Bandopadhya, and dialogues were written by Ehsan Rizvi. Screenplay of this movie was written by Sachin Bhowmick. Editing of this movie was done by Waman Bhonsle and Gurudutt Shirali.
“Aanchal-1980” had six songs. Lyrics for the songs in this movie are written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and music is composed by R.D. Burman. Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, and Swapan Chakravarty had given their voices to the songs in this movie.
Here is a brief about this movie which our senior member Shree Raja Swaminathan had mentioned in his post while presenting the first song from this movie on the blog on 18.07.2018.
The film stars Kaka, Rekha, Raakhee, Amol Palekar and Prem Chopra. It’s a village-based story, where Kaka and Amol Palekar are brothers, with Raakhee married to Amol Palekar. Since Kaka is her husband’s younger brother, Raakhee treats him with great affection. Kaka too has highest regard for his bhaabhi. Prem Chopra, who has a score to settle with Amol Palekar, plays mischief, creating misunderstanding in his mind about the relationship between Raakhee and Kaka. Also, doing the same to Rekha, who is in love with Kaka. To be honest, the film picks up only in the second half – the first half is rather slow. But maybe it is a build-up to show the relationships between the characters. I was rather keen for the film to get on with the plot.
Today’s song is a ‘nok-jhonk’ & ‘roothhnaa-manaanaa’ type song where we have Rajesh Khanna and Rekha around a picturesque rural location where Rajesh Khanna is driving a tractor (chhakdaa) and Rekha has a lover’s tiff with Rajesh Khanna in the voice of Asha Bhonsle.
It is a nice hummable song where the lady is teasing the sulking gentleman and at the same time she is trying to nurse his hurt ego.
