Alphabetical list of actresses who have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice- Part V
(Actresses whose name begin with the letter E)
In the first four episodes of the series, we listed actresses whose names begin with the first four letters of the alphabet and who had lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog. Then we went on to cover a song that was lip synced by another actress whose name began with the same letter and who had not lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog.
We managed to find “new” actresses (whose name begin with the first four letters of the alphabet) lip syncing in Asha Bhonsle’s voice for the first time in the blog. They were Anju Mahendru, Bhanupriya,Chandrakala and Divya Bharati.
This series seems to have caught the imagination of a few regulars of the blog. Pamir Harvey has begun to research on this topic and he came up with several “new” actresses whose names begin with A and who had not lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog. He has covered four such actresses in the blog (Amala,Aarti Gupta,Anjala Zhaveri,Anu Agrawal) and there are more such actresses in the pipeline. I was aware of these names and I had searched for Asha Bhonsle’s songs picturised on them, but I had drawn a blank. So kudos to Pamir Harvey for his ability to find so many actresses fitting the bill.
Our inhouse researcher Sadanand Kamath jee has also become very interested in the series. It appears that he is carrying out indepth research on actresses who have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice and he is regularly sharing the results of his research with us.
Then there is our inhouse identifier of obscure actors, Prakashchandra. He too is coming up with the name of obscure actresses (whose names I was not aware of) who have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice. For example, he pointed out an actress whose name begins with D and who has sung a song in Asha Bhonsle’s voice. Her name is Deepa. She figures in the blog lip syncing in another singer’s voice. So she was an eligible candidate for consideration while covering letter D of this series.
I had mentioned in the previous post of this series that he exercise of finding a “new” actress whose name begins with E was going to be the most challenging. As things stand, there were only two actresses whose names begin with E who have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog. Music lovers may not have heard of one of these actresses, but the song lip synced by her in Asha Bhonsle’s voice is an iconic song.

Erica was an American lady who happened to be in India. She found herself chosen to lip sync the iconic club song of “Waqt”(1965). She liked India so much that she married an Indian, some Mr Lal, became Erica Lal, and settled in India. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on her.
Edwina is close to our heart in this blog. An Anglo Indian lady who settled down in UK after her career as a dancer in Bollyood movies was over, she became well known to us thanks to Memsaab, who researched on Edwina and many of her close relatives and colleagues. Memsaab even met Edwina. Memsaab used to get old Hindi movies restored and sub titled in English (by people such as our regulars Raja and Ava Suri) and shared them with movie lovers as Edu Productions movies. The name Edu was in honour of Edwina. In her blog, Memsaab has written several articles on Edwina that can be accessed by this link.
With just two actresses with letter E lip syncing in the blog in Asha Bhonsle’s voice, I was worried that finding a new actress with this letter was going to be tough. But Mr Sadanand Kamath managed to find one such name and shared his finding with us. This actress is Ektaa.
I was not even aware that there was an actress called Ektaa in Hindi movies. I only knew Ekta Kapoor, who is into TV serial making. It turns out that Ekta has lip synced one song (perhaps only this song) in Asha Bhonsle’s voice.
This song is from the movie “Naamcheen”(1991). “Naamcheen” means famous or well known, but this movie is an obscure movie of its time. Its obscurity can be gauged by the fact that IMDB mentiones its stars as Bhanu, Birbal and Day Dongre. 🙂
“Naamcheen”(1991) was written, produced and directed by Ajit Dewani for AMA Productions, Bombay. It had Aditya Pancholi, Ekta,Satish Shah, Raza Murad, Gulshan Grover, Sri Prada, Rajendranath,Jagdish Raj, Suhas Joshi,Birbal etc in it.
“Naamcheen”(1991) had four songs in it that were penned by three lyricists. Anu Malik is the music diirector.
The song we are interedted in is a solo Asha Bhonsle song. It is penned by Dev Kohli. The song is picturised as a stage dance song on Ekta. Aditya Pancholi and Satish Shah are seated in the front row of the housefull auditorium.
Here is this song. The video version is over four minutes long. The audio version contains one extra stanza and it is over seven minutes long.
With the letter E done and dusted, next destination for this series in the letter F, another tricky letter for the series.The blog had only four actresses whose names begin with F and who havelip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog. I request our knowledgaeble readers to suggest actresses with this letter who have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice.
