Today’s drunkard song is from the movie ‘Wafaa-1972’. It is again a song sung by Kishore Kumar, who has sung quite a few such drunkard songs such songs and more drunkard songs sung by will feature in the future in this series.
‘Wafaa-1972’ was directed by Ramanna for R.R.Pictures, Bombay. It had Sanjay, Rakhi, Hina Kausar, Nazeer Hussain, Joginder, Krishan Dhawan, Naaz, Sunder, Sulochana Chatterjee, Anwar Ali, Padma Khanna, Prem Kumar, Swaraj, Jayshree T, Kalavati, Deshpande, Shabnam, Puranik, Anand, Prem Nath, Rajendra Nath, Bipin Gupta, Madan Puri, Sapru had friendly appearance in this movie. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 30.03.1972.
This movie “Wafaa-1972” has five songs (as per HFGK Vol V) all written by Rajinder Krishan and music composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Manna Dey have given their voices to the songs in this movie. One song from this movie has been presented on this blog earlier.
In the song under discussion, Sanjay Khan lip-syncs in Kishore Kumar’s voice. Jayshree T is the club dancer. Anwar Ali and many others are also seen in the picturisation. Many other female dancers accompany Jayshree T in this club dance.
Listening to today’s song and watching it reminds me of the song ‘ik botal ho bagal mein aur haathh mein ho ik jaam’ from the movie ‘Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thhi-1970’ which too is sung by Kishore Kumar (with a few lines sung by Asha Bhonsle) and penned by Rajinder Krishan, who is the lyricist for both songs. Sanjay Khan figures in both songs. If one watches the picturisation of the two songs, they are similar. One difference that one can point out is that the song from the movie ‘Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thhi-1970’ is composed by Rahul Dev Burman, whereas Laxmikant-Pyarelal are the composer fo this song of “Wafa”.
