Today’s actress to be introduced here with an Asha Bhosle song is Deepshikha Nagpal. Deepshikha Nagpal is not only an actress but also director and writer. She has had a versatile career across Bollywood films, popular television shows, and reality TV.
Deepshikha Nagpal was born on January 27, 1977, in Bombay (now called Mumbai), India. She grew up surrounded by the entertainment industry. Her father, Ashwini Kumar Nagpal, was a writer and actor, while her mother, Sharda Panchotia, was an actress and producer. Her grandfather, Vithaldas Panchotia, was also a well-known actor and director. Coming from this artistic family, it was natural for her to enter show business. During her early years in acting many people were of the opinion that her striking looks made her resemble the iconic late actress Parveen Babi, which I personally find a bit hard to digest.
Deepshikha Nagpal made her official screen debut in the 1994 film Betaaj Badshah, but she shot to mainstream fame during the late 1990s and 2000s. She received widespread acclaim for playing the character Bindya alongside superstar Shah Rukh Khan in the hit action film Koyla (1997). She collaborated with Shah Rukh Khan again in the comedy Baadshah (1999). Over the years, her filmography grew to include memorable roles in Dillagi (1999), Corporate (2007) and the comedy Partner (2007) starring Salman Khan and Govinda. Demonstrating her multi-talented nature, Deepshikkha stepped behind the camera in 2011 to write, produce, direct, and star in her own romantic drama film titled Yeh Dooriyan. She also expanded her cinematic reach by acting in regional cinema, including the Punjabi romantic comedy Second Hand Husband (2015).
She played glamorous or supernatural characters in massive fantasy hits like Shaktimaan (1998), Son Pari (2000-2004), Shararat (2003), and Baal Veer (2013) in Indian television. Her career also includes consistent roles in popular daily soap operas such as Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon (2014), Main Bhi Ardhangini (2019), and Megha Barsenge (2024-25). She showcased her dancing skills alongside her partner on the celebrity dance show Nach Baliye 5 in 2013 and later entered the famous reality house as a competitive contestant on Bigg Boss Season 8 in 2014.
Deepshikha’s personal life has often been a topic of public interest. She was first married to actor Jeet Upendra in 1997, and the couple had two children, Vedhika and Vivaan, before divorcing in the mid-2000s. In 2012, she married actor and model Kaishav Arora, who had co-starred in her directorial film Yeh Dooriyan. Following a highly publicized and rocky relationship, the couple eventually separated and divorced. Despite facing two failed marriages, Deepshikha remains openly optimistic and identifies as a die-hard romantic. In her media interviews, she has proudly shared that she still completely believes in the institution of love and marriage, showing a resilient and positive outlook on life.
Today’s song is from the film Agniputra (2000). The film was directed by B. Vijay Reddy, with a screenplay by Anwar Khan and produced by J. K. Movie Units. It starred Mithun Chakraborty, Vineetha, Shashikala, Asrani and Prem Chopra, with music composed by Nikhil-Vinay and Rajesh Roshan (composed only one song). The film was released on 4 February 2000. The supporting cast includes Deepshikha Nagpal, Raj Devgan, Maleeka Ghai, Pramod Moutho, Bharat Kapoor, Deepak Shirke, Viju Khote, Dinesh Hingoo, Mahavir Shah and Gurbachan Singh.
Arjun Dhanraj (Mithun Chakraborty) is a humble man who leads a quiet, hardworking life. He supports his widowed mother, Mrs. Dhanraj (Shashikala), and his three sisters by playing music in a local wedding band alongside his friend Arun (Javed Shaikh). Arjun is completely devoted to his family, sacrificing his own personal happiness to ensure their comfort and safety.
Arjun’s peaceful life changes when he falls deeply in love with Shalu (Vineetha). Shalu is the daughter of a powerful, highly corrupt local Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) named Prem Bhandari (Prem Chopra). Prem Bhandari and his cruel political associates, including the ruthless Davar (Deepak Shirke) and Governor S.K. Tripathi (Bharat Kapoor), are deeply displeased by this romance. They view Arjun as a low-class outsider who has crossed a line by pursuing the politician’s daughter.
To punish Arjun and break his spirit, Prem Bhandari uses his immense political power to orchestrate a smear campaign. He utilizes a corrupt police officer, Inspector Dev Singh (Mahavir Shah), to raid Arjun’s home. The police falsely accuse Arjun and his innocent sisters, including Manisha (Maleeka Ghai) and Pammi (Deepshikha Nagpal), of working as illegal sex workers. Following the public humiliation, Bhandari’s vicious henchmen physically and sexually assault Arjun’s sisters. Devastated by the trauma, the horrific violation, and the unfair public shame brought upon their household, two of Arjun’s sisters commit suicide.
The destruction of his close-knit family shatters Arjun’s peaceful nature. Driven by grief and rage, he sheds his identity as a quiet musician. He transforms into a ruthless force of vengeance. Arjun goes on a targeted mission to hunt down everyone involved in the conspiracy. Using sharp tactics, brute strength, and calculated planning, Arjun systematically outsmarts and eliminates the corrupt police inspector Dev Singh (Mahavir Shah), Davar and the mastermind behind the entire tragedy, Prem Bhandari.
Arjun successfully executes his revenge, bringing a violent, definitive justice to the men who destroyed his family.
Today’s song is filmed on Deepshikha Nagpal (credited in the film as Deep Shikha) and Raj Devgan. The song is sung by Asha Bhosle. The composer duo is Nikhil-Vinay and the lyricist is Anand Bakshi. So with this song the movie Agniputra (2000) and the actress Deepshikha Nagpal make their debut on this blog. There are three film titles with the word Agni in it on this blog as yet and they are Agnipariksha (1981), Agni Rekha (1973) and Agneepath (1991 and 2012). With this film the fourth Agni comes to join them – Agniputra.
