“Nek Parveen”(1946) was produced by D R D Wadia (cousin of JBH and Homi Wadia) and directed by S M Yusuf for DRD Productions, Bombay. This muslim social movie had Ulhas, Raagini, Kumar, W M Khan, Yashodhara Katju, Mirza Musharraf, Kumar, Masood etc in it.
“Nek Parveen”(1946) had seven songs in it. Two songs have been covered in the past.
Here is the third song from the movie to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Zeenat Begam. Waheed Qureshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Feroz Nizami.
The song is picturised as a “remonstrating with the Almighty” song on Raagini.
This movie was made when India’s independence and partition was imminent. The movie was criticised by Baburao Patel in his inimitable manner in FilmIndia magazine. The movie flopped at the box office. After independence and partition, the director S M Yusuf went to Pakistan. In Pakistan, the director S M Yusuf remade this movie in 1975 with the same title and that movie turned out to be a hit in Pakistan.
