“Miss Coca Cola” (1955) had the same storyline as “Aaya Saawan Jhoom Ke” (1969). But whereas “Aaya Saawan Jhoom Ke” (1969) was a big success at the box office, “Miss Coca Cola” had flopped miserably at the box office.

Now we return to Suman Kalyanpur. This is the last song by her in this series. This time looking for solos songs, I found a very good multiple version solo song by Suman Kalyanpur from the film ‘Ek Paheli ’(1971).

KAAFILAA (1952) was produced under the banner of Munshi Productions and directed by Arvind Sen. Ashok Kumar and Nalini Jaywant were in lead roles with Motilal, Ranjan, Amita, Nazir Hussain, Sunalini Devi etc in supporting roles. The film had 8 songs written by Vrajendra Gaud (5), Kavi Pradeep (2) and Moti (1) which were set to music by Husnlal-Bhagatram (HB). Three songs have already been covered in the blog. The film may have failed miserably on the box office as even sketchy information on the film’s story and synopsis is not available. But going by the star cast, the film may have had an intricate story not properly translated into a gripping presentation on the screen for the audience to appreciate it.

“Sunayna” (1979) was a Rajshree Productions movie. It was produced by Tarachand Barjatya and directed by Hiren Nag. The story of the movie was inspired from Charlie Chaplin’s “City lights” (1931). I must say that I quite loved watching the movie in a then newly built mini sized movie hall in Ranchi in 1979. One of the lasting impressions of this movie in my mind include the extremely hummable title song viz. Sunayna sunayna..aaj in nazaaron ko tum dekho aur main trumhe dekhte huye dekhoon. The other lasting impression was Jagdeep playing a fellow jailbird of Naseeruddin Shah who tries to help Naseeruddin Shah escape out of jail. Instead of Naseeruddin Shah, Jagdeep finds himself out of the jail. And from then onwards Jagdeep tries very hard to go back inside the jail, but to no avail. 🙂

“Abhi Naa Jaao Chhod Kar, Ke Dil Abhi Bharaa Nahin”.
The manner of expression, the selective emphasis, the slow measured pace of eloquence, the first rendering of this line – and the soft melody simply steals your heart away. And the mind wants to beseech the departed souls, to kindly tarry, and stay for a bit more, for the heart is not satiated as yet. Words from the pen of Sahir Sb, the touching expression in Rafi Sb’s voice, and one can imagine the balding, somewhat simple and frail, bespectacled Jaidev, conducting the instrumentalists, as the song progresses.
