Mukesh is extensively covered by Shri Sudhir-ji in his ‘The voice of Mukesh’ series’. I will just include few bits from Wikipedia about his personal life.

If one has to classify songs on the basis of their popularity then we have extremely well known timeless classics on the one end of scale to totally obscure forgotten gems on the other end of the scale. In fact, one can liken them to human settlements, that vary from extremely densely populated to extremely thinly populated. So one can say that iconic well known songs like “Mere sapnon ki raani kab aayegi tu” is like a metropolitan city, say Mumbai. On the other end, we have deserted places that few people know about. Visiting some of these thinly populated/ deserted places could be extremely rewarding. Forgotten songs of Hindi movies are very much like that.

The non-film songs made an appearance on this blog with the songs sung by Saigal Saab. One proud feather that this blog carries in its cap is that all the Hindi/Urdu songs sung by Saigal Saab, both from films and non-film, are now posted on this blog. After Saigal Saab’s non-film songs started to appear on this blog, a general discussion ensued amongst the readers and contributors, wishing to see more of non-film songs posted here, from other singers also. And so followed some more non-film songs from stalwarts such as Pankaj Mullick, Jagmohan ‘Sursagar’, Talat Mehmood, Juthika Roy, Geeta Dutt, Kamla Jharia and CH Atma have found a place here. Lata also has already made a debut in the non-film category, for the song “Ae Mere Watan Ke Logo”. And so has Mohammed Rafi for the song “Awaaz Do Hum Ek Hain” .

I had never heard of the film SANYASI (1945) until a few months back. The film was produced under the banner of Kardar Productions and directed by A R Kardar. The cast included Shamim Bano, Amar, Shyam Kumar, Ghulam Mohammed. I checked the available songs on internet and found to my surprise that there were 10 songs in this film out of which 7 songs were sung by Zohrabai Ambalewali (both solo and duets). These songs were written by Pandit Madhur and set to music by Naushad. Other than these, I am not able to get other details about this film such as genre and box office success or otherwise of the film.

“Moorti” (1945) was a movie produced by Ranjit Movietone. It was directed by Chaturbhuj Doshi. The movie had Motilal, Khursheed, Padma Banerjee, Yashwant Dube, Kamal Jamindar, Kaneez, Tara Bai etc. in it. Only the first two names in the cast are somewhat familiar. I have little idea about the other actors in the list.

“Baap Beti” (1954) is a very obscure movie and its songs are even more obscure. But what nice songs this movie has !

Here is a lovely song from this movie. This song is sung by Lata and chorus. Only the audio of this song is available, so it is difficult to guess how and whom this song is picturised. My guess is that a music teacher is teaching music to her pupils in this song.
