“Ankhen” (1950) was the debut movie of Madan Mohan as a music director. He used quite a few singers as well as lyricists in this movie. I have already posted a song that was sung by Raj Khosla whose lyrics were written by B D Mishra.

What songs Kishore Kumar sang in that movie ! “Le jaayenge, le jaayenge” became an icon of an icon song and helped many careers. One was the career of Shashi Kapoor who capitalised on it by signing movies indiscriminately.

This song is among the most difficult songs that has been sung in Bollywood movies. For one, the singers are called upon to sing in a wide range of frequencies, and secondly, it is a semi classical song, where one needed to sing not just one raag, but as many as four raagas. Yes it is true. This song as raag Sohini, raag Bahaar, raag Jaunpuri and raag Yaman in it.

Kishore Kumar, Majrooh Sultanpuri and R D Burman excel in this song belonging to an eminently forgettable movie. Movie may be forgettable, but the song is such a nice one that you can listen to it many times over, without feeling bored, if you have the taste for such songs.
