Hullo to all atulwaasis

A few days back our NAHMJI sent a mail on our email chain about a song she was looking for. As is our normal practice she had looked up for it first on our blog (I presume as that is also my method). Then she put out a look out notice for our diggaz to help her and the most unthinkable happened. Our guruji actually put up his hand to say he was sorry he could not help. But one thing is certain in atuldom, someone or other will come up to answer the question. This time it was Sadanandji. Kamathsaab thank you.

So, yesterday afternoon we receive this message from Peevesie’s Mom.  There is a Chitalkar song.  A friend of hers is looking for it.  As it was revealed in later part of the thread, this friend had heard this song on the ‘Bhoole Bisre Geet’ program on Radio Ceylon (now called the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation).  When he switched on the radio, the song had already started so he missed the introductory information, like film name and artist etc.  Singer he could recognize from the voice.  It is Chitalkar (C Ramchandra).

“Sipahiya”(1949) is a movie few people have heard about, leave aside knowing about. Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our beloved inhouse encyclopaedia, has all the information about this movie, of course. Here is what he has to say about this obscure movie:

We have heard a song that advises people to jump into a well but avoid getting married. 🙂 This song was sung by Kishore Kumar in “Parivaar”(1956). This funny song was discussed in the blog as far back as in 2009.

Today (10 december 2014) is the thirteenth death anniversary of Ashok Kumar (13 october 1911- 10 december 2001). Ashok Kumar was the original superstar of Hindi movies who earned this status in 1943 with “Kismat”(1943). Ashok Kumar’s film career began in 1930s and spanned the entire 20th century. He played all kinds of roles as an actor. He was much more than an actor, though. He was a movie produced as well. And he was well connected (through marriages) to lots and lots of major personalities of Hindi movies. In fact, if you are a trivia buff, then you can find that he was connected (through marriages) to people like Ravindranath Tagore, Prithviraj Kapoor etc in addition to the more obvious people like Mukherjis, Samarths etc. And he was of course the elder brother of Anoop Kumar and Kishore Kumar.

LOST AND FOUND- GEMS FROM UNRELEASED FILMS….Song No.–7
————————————————————

Today’s song is from film Nazrana-40s. It is sung by Shamshad Begum and Chitalkar, under the baton of my favourite composer C.Ramchandra. C Ramchandra started his career with a C grade stunt film ‘ Sukhi Jeevan ‘-1942. By the time he was a known name, Shamshad Begum had already become famous all over India with her songs from Khazanchi and other films. C Ramchandra used Shamshad’s voice for the first time when he sang a duet with her in his first Filmistan film ‘Safar ‘-46.
