It is perhaps the inability of our times to distinguish between the “good” and the “great”, the “noteworthy” and the “legendary”, the “impressive” and the “brilliant”, that leads us to use the latter of the two adjectives in each case in far greater measure, and for far more modest achievements than would have been approved of by an earlier generation. Or maybe it is just our laziness, or our tendency to exaggerate, that leads us to our use (or abuse) of the English language in this manner.

I tend to liken the journey of this blog to a train. But nowadays I find the comparison less appropriate because a train stops at intermediate stations for a while whereas we in this blog do not stop at any of the milestones and keep going along, though we may sometimes become somewhat slower than usual for various reasons. So that way, I find the comparison of this blog with a road journey somewhat more appropriate where one need not stop anywhere, and one can see milestones going past at high speed.

Seven thousand. And the mind says, Goodness, are we already there?
A fabulous pace and a fantastic record. The steady pace with which the team is pulling together is simply marvelous. And more than that, it is Atul ji’s single minded devotion to this endeavor. One can barely begin to imagine the amount of time and effort that he is relentlessly putting in, day in and day out. That is nothing less than fantastic.

Imagine that you reached someplace where a song is playing, probably on a radio. But unfortunately it seems you have missed almost the entire song. What you hear as you get into listening range is just the last one or two lines playing. The words you hear do not seem to be part of the main song lyrics. And the words you hear do not seem to make a coherent sentence. You may just skip the thought and move on. Or if you are more Hindi-film-music inclined, you would start to wonder what the song was and who would have been the singer of this song, of which you have heard just a snippet.

This musical bandwagon continues to roll on unabated (touchwood !) and we continue to pass milestones at regular intervals.
Century of songs is the most basic and common kind of milestone for this song. In the earlier days of the blog, we just counted the number of songs posted in the day and every 100th song was a cause for celebration.

Today (24 october) is the birth anniversary of Jeevan, one of the major villains of Hindi movies from 1950s to 1970s.
Villains of Hindi movies typically concentrated on torturing the lead actors rather than lip syncing songs, and so there may not be too many songs that could be said to be picturised on them.
