My first introduction to ‘ghazals’ came about in 1986. Before that it was all ‘songs’, ‘sad songs’ or ‘slow songs’ for me. In 1985-86 I had taken up a job and my boss was a Punjabi from Chandigarh. He was fond of ghazals and I was fond of old Hindi film songs. My boss had with him a good collection of audio cassettes of ghazals by Mehedi Hassan, Ghulam Ali, Jagjit Singh and others. Impressed by my awareness of the old Hindi film songs he asked me to list out and compile old songs (singer wise, actor/actress wise) and get them recorded on cassettes (Sony, TDK cassettes mostly).

‘Do Khilaadi-1973’, ‘Double Cross-1973’ and ‘Tofaan-1975’??

No! Nothing similar among these three films, Except that I got to watch these films back to back during our stay at a small town on one of the tour programmes accompanying my parents for their plays (my parents used to act in Marathi plays).( And this may be in 1975-76).

Today 15th Dec 2013 is the 79th birth anniversary (15.12.1935) of Usha Mangeshkar.

The voice that initially became popular singing mainly Children Songs. And she mostly received offers for that type of songs in her early career. (as mentioned by our Shri. Deshmukh Sir in his post celebrating 100 songs of Usha Mangeshkar )

When this song Khit pit khit karey aur kat kat ke girey was shared, it immediately reminded me of another song which I had heard during 1985-86 either on radio or in the collection of the music centre which I used to visit daily evening during those days.

I grew up in a small village and went to a village school, where sometimes the classes were conducted outside and we used to sit on the ground.

At young age in school when we learn about the freedom movement and freedom fighters we are easily inspired by Subhash Chandra Bose and Bhagat Singh because their life had struggle, thrill, passion and action. They did all this for the people, for the nation, for us who are now enjoying the freedom that they helped achieve for us.

Happy (belated) Birthday Danny Denzongpa!!! (DOB 25 february 1948)

How people succeed in their lives after initial struggles and sometimes even after deviating from their original career option (which they have envisaged earlier) has always been a subject of interest for me.
I find such people as inspirational role-models for others. Their success stories are based on perseveresnce and doggedness. They are not only successful, they also contribute in the development of Arts and Culture in Society.
