Kavi Pradeep, the famous poet and lyricist, has been a well known figure both in the film industry and in the field of Hindi literature. He is one of the few poets who have sung their own writings in the films. Going by the numbers, probably Pradeep ji is a leader in this category of lyricist-singer. He has a fairly large number of songs to his credit, that he has sung himself.

So many lustrous gems of melodious beauty are still out there waiting to be re-discovered and re-played. Browsing through the YouTube, or my own collection, or just turning the pages of the Geet Kosh, is an exercise that generally does not fail to bring up a song that is unheard or heard and lost for a long time. I came across this lovely melancholic melody by Asha Bhosle, only last week. And since then, I have listened to it so many times. It is a wonder that the songs of sadness are melodies of such beauty. Possibly it is the emotions contained therein. This song has not made it into any selections of Asha ji, that I have heard of. But I believe this obscure and rarely heard song merits more attention from the listeners.

Another wonderful song pulled out from memory, and another as yet unknown film (to me) discovered. Awaara Abdullah is a film released in 1963 by Henna Films, Bombay. The direction is by Tara Harish, a name that is unfamiliar. It sounds like a joint name of two people, but I could be wrong.

Regaining the memories of a song heard long back, I tried to locate it and tried to find more about it. Thankfully, I am able to find the audio posted on the YouTube. But then all other information is new to me. This lovely sound of a melancholic melody by Talat Mehmood, is a song from a film ‘Patthar Ke Khwaab’ (1969), a name that I encountered for the first time today. Pulling together information from Geet Kosh, I find this film is produced under the banner of Nagin Productions, and directed by Pal Premi. The main list of stars includes Mahipal, Parveen Choudhary, Sapru, Madhumati, Amarnath, Mohan Choti, Jeevankala etc.

As a music director, N Dutta worked for films that are a mix of A grade and B/C grade films. He did have some films associated with big name banners. Especially, he worked for BR Films for the movies Saadhna (1958), Dhool Ka Phool (1959) and Dharamputra (1961). Each of these films is a musical bonanza and boasts of a string of wonderful hits. Four songs of the 1958 film ‘Saadhna’ are already posted on this blog. This is the 5th gem from this film.

As I encounter more songs, heard and unheard, composed by N Dutta, I find that Asha Bhosle is the singer who has apparently sung most of his songs (with female voice). Here is a lovely melody from an obscure film, ‘Mohini’ (1957). In this film, of the 9 songs, six are sung by Asha ji.
