A voice that is a signature of mysteries. The deep bass vibrations resound like the echoing sound waves passing through the gullies and valleys of the mountainside, covered with moist and heavy fog, adding to the bass heaviness. Reminds one of ‘sannaata’ and ‘kahmoshi’ and ‘kohraa’ of the lonely pathways, being tread by a ‘raahgir’ – the ‘banjaara’ traveler walking alone and humming ‘chal akela. . .’.
Remembering Hemant Da on the anniversary of his passing away (26th September).

In 1952, this voice came to the fore with the rousing proclamation of “Vande Maatram, Vande Maatram”. This song, which comes from the seminal creation of Bankim Chandra Chatterji – ‘Anand Matth’, was first published in 1882. After the passing of the first war of independence in 1857, the undercurrents of anger and resistance were simmering across the country. But the voices of cohesive and decisive action were still to come a couple of decades later. With the publication of ‘Anand Mathh’, the nation and its people got a slogan that said everything in just two simple words. After this song came on the lips of the common man, over the years many musical interpretations have been pronounced. Most of them are based in classical music, and the most popular versions are gradual and lingering, in the mode of a prayer to the motherland.

BHAJAN MALA – GOLDEN 50s (Pushp-3)
—————————————
There is a class of people, who make faces when a Mythological film is mentioned. According to them, seeing such films is ” outdated ” and ” Fundamentalist ‘. They feel that those who see such films are way behind the times. These people forget that in the so called ” advanced” world of Hollywood, even today,Mythological, costume and Historical films are regularly produced. Only thing is that these films are no longer advertised on the same scale as was the case a few decades back.
