My familiarity with the film CHAAND (1944) was limited to its iconic song ‘do dilon ko ye duniyaa milne hi nahin deti’ until a few years ago. I had watched the video clip of this song many times in the past. With its beautiful lyrics, I felt that I should watch this full movie before I attempt to write an article on the song. Fortunately, the video of this film is available on the internet.

“Rattan” (1944) was a movie that was musically a major milestone for Hindi movie music. The music of this movie served as a major trendsetter. The music of this movie was based on folk music, as against classical music. This ensured that movie goers, who were exposed to such music in their day to day life, were able to identify with this kind of music better. And just how well did the public identify with the music ! The music of this movie became super duper hit. Naushad became a rage, and other music directors too jumped on the bandwagon of folk music based songs.
