Though I have discussed as many as seven songs from “Nastik” (1954), I was not aware of this song till a few hours ago.
This song is a bhajan cum public lament. In this song, Ajit, Usha Kiran and others are sitting in a temple in front of the idols of gods and Ajit sings this song. The song states that non believers tend to blame God for their misdeeds, but their efforts to give a bad name to God cannot succeed. God’s flag will always fly high, come what may.

I am aware of a movie called “Grihasthhi” (1963) and I have in fact discussed a song from this movie in this blog. Now I have come to realise that there was another movie of the same name that was released in 1948.

In India, being a “gareeb” (poor) has often been equated to being good and nice. And likewise, being rich has been considered being bad and evil. So it is not uncommon to find Hindi movies, especially old ones, championing the cause of gareebs, the way Indian politicians champion their cause even today, instead of asking the basic question as to why gareebs should even exist in the first place.
