The regular visitors to this blog must have noticed that we are seeing more Asha Bhosle songs posted in the blog nowadays than anybody else’s. The reason is that she is heading towards reaching a milestone figure of 1000 songs in the blog. I have been remiss in writing post of Asha Bhosle songs. Let me rectify this. The song I have chosen is my personal favourite. Asha Bhonsle’s solos from “Sujata” and “Bandini” under S D Burman, are a treasure which I knew from early days.

Just as pet songs are few and far between in Hindi movies, much to my disappointment, swimming pool songs with bikini clad ladies are also very few in Hindi movies, much to the disappointment of a large number of movie watchers.

The title of the movie “Cha cha cha” is unique and one of its kind. It also indicates great songs. Four songs from the film are already posted here, which include songs like “woh ham na thhe woh tum na thhi”, “ek chameli and mandve tale” & “subha na aayi shaam na aayi”. There are more such gems still to be discovered from this movie.

“Mahua” (1969) was a reincarnation story and quite an ambitious one at that. Here the hero and heroine undergo not one, but two reincarnations each. It is obviously difficult to keep track of the comlicated plot, not just for the moviegoers, for for the moviemakers too. So the end result was a confused and confusing movie that duly flopped at the box office.

“Laila Majnu” was the debut film for Ranjeeta. For a number of year after I saw “Ankhiyon ke jharoke se” she was my favorite. I made it a point to see all her films, even those obscure movies with Mithun Chakravarty and music by Bappi Lahiri. I saw her films right upto “Rajput” (1981). Than she sort of dropped out of scene. There may have been a few more films, but I dont know. I dont remember how, but ” Ankhiyon ke jharoke se” I might have seen on T. V. only. ‘Rajput’ we had all seen in the theatre. That was a time when Amitabh Bachchan was in full flow. We would see all his films, not as soon as they released, but it was usually after the school exams were over and on the day of the last paper or the weekend. My father would book the tickets in advance. “Do aur Do paanch” onwards all films of Amitabh Bachhan were a must watch for all of us. They usually had a long run a theatre, unlike what happens now. If you want to see a movie in the theatre you have to do it within a few weeks. If dont manage to, then it will be gone from all the nearby movie halls.
