I have often mentioned it that lyrics are the soul of songs. One of the main reasons why the songs of the golden era went on to become timeless classics was that great importance was given to lyrics of the songs. There have been instances when the music directors patiently waited for the lyricist to come up with the lyrics of the song.

“Chaandni Raat” (1949) is a Taj Mahal Pictures presentation. It was directed by M Ehsan. Starcast of the movie included names like Shyam, Naseem, Cuckoo, Jilloo Maa, Ulhas, Parvin, David Abraham etc.

“Taj” (1956) was a Dossi Films production. It was produced by Fali Mistry and directed by Nandlal Jaswantlal. The movie had Pradeep kumar,Vyjayanthimala, Bipin Gupta, Jeevan, Kammo, Shakunthala, Amar,Jajo, Kathana, Helen, Qamar, Roopmala, Ulhas etc in it.

Kaaghaz ki thhi wo naao

I just came across this rare song from an obscure movie. The movie is called “Zabaan” (1943) and it had actors like Dixit, Mubarak, Ishwarlal, Kaushalya etc in it. None of these names rings any bell as far as I am concerned.

“Ham Ek Hain” (1946) is today remembered for being the debut movie of Dev Anand,Rehman and Rehana. But they were not the lead actors in this movie. The lead actors were Ram Singh,Kamla Kotnis and Durga Khote.

Even as I type out this write-up, my fingers are trembling. And I am not exaggerating! I have written over 50 write-ups for this blog so far and yet I find myself struggling to put down my thoughts coherently for this particular piece. It is not as if I have writer’s block (which I may also well have) ; it is just that the occasion seems to have got the better of me. I find myself totally inadequate to the occasion, and although I’ve just started, I have this nasty foreboding that I am going to make a mess of this, I am going to end up “choking”. I am suddenly beginning to empathise and sympathise with the South African cricket team. 😀

“Saawan Bhaado” (1949) is an by now obsure movie. It was produced by Prakash pictures. The movie was directed by Kishore Sahu, but publicity materials showed the movie as directed by Ravindra Dave. The movie had Ram Singh, Munawwar Sultana, Om Prakash, Randhir, Indu, Jankidas, Raj Adeeb etc in this movie.
