In 1950s, we had a genre of songs where a lady, alone or accompanied by other co workers carrying basket on her head would be going on her way to her work while singing a song. The hero and heroine would be at hand to listen to the song. The song in a way would express the feelings that the leading duo have for each other but are too shy to express themselves. alternatively the song may set the tone for the movie. Such a song is there in “Aar Paar” (Kabhi aar kabhi paar ),”Do Aankhen Barah Haath” (Sainya jhoothon ka bada sartaaj nikla), CID (Boojh mera kyaa naam re ) etc. I am trying to think of a name that describes such songs, but I am unable to find an appropriate descriptive name for such a genre of songs. I request our readers to help out in suggesting a name for such songs.

In his earlier movies, he was variously known as Shaukat Ali, Shaukat Dehalvi, Shaukat Hussain, Shaukat Haidari, Shaukat Hussain Haidari etc. It was in 1953 that film director cum lyricist Nakshab Jarachavi coined the name Nashad for him. The name brought him luck. In fact this name was adopted by his family members as their surname the way the desendents of music director Roshan adopted the name Roshan (first name of Roshanlal Nagrath) as their surname.
