I have received a few farmaishes for the songs of “Barsaat ki raat”. Every song in the movie “Barsaat ki raat” is a memorable song, so I am not surprised that readers of this blog want me to post these songs from this movie.

“Barsaat ki raat” was an awesome musical extravaganza, the likes of which were perhaps seen neither before nor since. The story of the movie itself revolved around a qawwali competion, so naturally the movie was full of qawwalis and most of them have gone on to become all time great evergreen qawwalis. Roshan, the music director of this movie was perhaps the best music director as far as composing qawwalis was concerned, and he made his reputation in this genre in this movie.

I have posted two songs from “Bambai ka Babu” in this blog, and readers will agree that both of them were great songs. But as far as Binaca geetmala of 1960 was concerned, the most popular song from this movie was yet another song viz ” Chal ri sajni ab kya soche”.

There are songs that become very popular when they are released and they then go on to become all time great memorable songs. Then there are songs which become pupular dutring their time but they graduually become forgotten as time passes. Future generations grow up without being aware of the existence of such songs.

If one is not aware of the details of the song, one may mistake it for an O P Nayyar composition. Punjabi sounding tunes and picturised on girls wearing Punjabi dresses, and sung by Asha Bhonsle- how can it be otherwise ?

But no, this catchy and racy tune was composed by S D Burman, assisted by his son R D Burman.
