‘Ham Deewaane’ (1964) was produced by Natubhai Shah under the banner of Young India Entertainers and was directed by Master Bhagwan. The cast included Chandrashekhar, Master Bhagwan, Mumtaz, Helen, Iftekhar, Agha, Rajan Haksar, Maruti, Kundan, Anwar, Kanchanmala etc. This film was one among many attempts by Master Bhagwan to revive his filmy career which was being reduced to acting in small roles. However, this film was also an attempt to revive the musical career of C Ramchandra who composed the songs for this film as Anna Saheb, the name he had often used when associated with the films produced/directed by Master Bhagwan.

Due apologies to Majrooh saab for tweaking his well-known ghazal from Aakhri Daao (1958)
Remembering and celebrating Mohammed Rafi saab on his birth centenary (24 December 1924-31 July 1980).
It is just 44 years since Rafi saab passed away in 1980, but ever since he graced our HFM with his matchless voice, it is as if the voice always existed and will remain us forever.

Once I post the century post in the blog, I heave a big sigh of relief and tell myself that I am free from tension as the next century post is far far away. So it came as a surprise to me that the next cenbtury post for the blog has arrived. I thought that the previous blog century post had appeared just a few days ago ! Today, January 13, 2024, is 94th birth anniversary of music director, Sardar Malik. In his childhood, he had wished to be a singer, but the fate turned him toward music direction. He did not have a prolific career. He never got opportunity to work with top film banners in spite of talents which was reflected in most of the songs he composed. Recently, I had gone through his interview on Vividh Bharati which was probably conducted after his ‘retirement’ from the film world. From his talk, I could visualize him to be a man of principles, a man of least resistance and a man of self-respect which will not allow him to indulge in networking. Lastly, he was a sensitive person who refrained from hurting anyone even if he had suffered from wrongdoings.

The tinsel town industry is a troubling mix of good and bad fortunes. All the zest and joy that we witness in front of the arc lights is a small part of this business. The larger part of mixed fortunes, career heartbreaks and un-celebrated talents is in the shadow world behind the arc lights. This world is invisible to the viewers because the glare of the arc lights does not allow a view into the darkness behind. For every success story that we celebrate, there are ten times more stories of despair and dejection.
