Sonik and Omi who were mama and bhanja acted as assistants to many music directors viz Madan Mohan etc. It was in later half of 1960s that they started out as independent music directors.

“Do Badan” was a movie full of some wonderful songs written by Shakeel Badayuni and composed by Ravi. The song “jab chali thandi hawa” sung by Asha Bhonsle and picturised on Asha Parekh was a sweet and melodious song to listen to.

Here is another superb Rafi song. This song is from a 1966 movie called “Gaban”. Though it is a very well known song, but for some reason its video is not available, and the few clips available show school / college albums with this song playing in the background. Here is this song without such irritants and with the photo of Rafi instead.

During 1960-70s, I only wanted to listen to new songs. But with Vividh Bharati, you stood no chance, and Radio Ceylon broadcasted new songs at night only on wednesday in Binaca geetmala. So most often than not, it is songs like this Lata song that I got to hear at night. These days, I would get mesmerised if I listened to this song, but those days, such songs would put me to sleep out of boredom.

Another Lata gem from 1960s. This song from Anupama (1966) was picturised on Surekha ( I thank Raja for this information). The Bollywood actresses those days tended to look like Vyjyantimala, Meena Kumari or Asha Parekh. Surekha looks so much like Asha Parekh in this song. May be that is because of similar appearance, hair style etc.
