Today 30th April’2021 is the first ‘Remembrance Day’ of actor Rishi Kapoor. He was born 04th September 1952 and passed away on 30th April 2020 at the age of sixty-seven only.
When I was a growing child in the seventies Rishi Kapoor was a rising star and had started his film career with the 1973 movie ‘Bobby’. I must be five years old then. And as I have mentioned in one of my earlier articles, I had not watched this movie. Maybe I have watched few songs of this movie on TV. Then there were movies like ‘Rafoo Chakkar’, ‘Badalte Rishtey’, ‘Raajaa’, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Ham Kisise Kam Nahin’, ‘Jhoothha Kahin Ka’, ‘Aap Ke Deewaane’ etc, then ‘Naseeb’’ ‘Ye Waadaa Rahaa’, ‘Karz’, ‘Zamaane Ko Dikhaanaa Hai’ and others which are a part of nostalgia of my growing years. I am not going to list all of them here. But I would like to mention few of his movies which I watched as a grown-up boy, ‘Saagar’, ‘Chaandni’, ‘Bol Radha Bol’, ‘Deewaanaa’, ‘Heena’ etc which I watched during my stay at Kota (Rajasthan).

Today’s song is from Dolti Naiya-1950. This film was made by Shaan E Hind Pictures, Bombay. It had music by Pt.Ram Prasad Sharma. The film’s 10 songs were written by a record number of 8 Lyricists and were sung also by 8 singers. In those days, it must have been a record, I guess. The cast of the film was Amarnath, Nigar Sultana, Shyama Dulari, Veena Kohli, Cuckoo, Bhudo Advani, Mukri, Mirza Musharraf, Munshi Munakka and others.

“Insaaf” is a title that is like Halley’s comet. It arrives in Hindi movie scene at ten year intervals or so, We have seen movies titles “Insaaf” being released in 1946, 1956, 1966, after break of one decade, it appeared again in 1987.
“Insaaf”(1956) was produced by Ravjibhai U Patel and Natwar Shyam and directed by Kedar Kapoor for Bhagyoday Pictures, Bombay. This movie had Nalini Jaiwant, Ajeet, Kamal Kapoor, Tiwari, Kamal, Sagar, Ramesh Tiwari, Helen, Durga Khote, Johny Walker etc in it.

For the general Hindi film audience, Suchitra Sen (real name: Roma Dasgupta) is synonymous with her lead roles in ‘Bambai Ka Babu’ (1960) with Dev Anand, ‘Mamta’ (1966) with Ashok Kumar and ‘Aandhi’ (1975) with Sanjeev Kumar. The second category of audience with academic interest in Hindi films will add four more of her Hindi films – ‘Devdas’ (1955) in the role of Paro with Dilip Kumar, ‘Musafir’ (1957) with Shekhar, ‘Champakali’ (1957) with Bharat Bhushan and ‘Sarhad’ (1960) with Dev Anand. Those in the latter category of Hindi film buffs would also know that Suchitra Sen worked in many Bengali films and the Bengali film audience loved to watch their favourite on-screen couple, Suchitra Sen and Uttam Kumar.

Today I have a very difficult task. The task of selecting one song from a possible 5251 (7874-2623 as per the stats page of the blog) is almost like needle in a hay stack.
