Today (25 july 2013) is the birth anniversary of Sudhir Phadke (25 july 1919- 29 july 2002). While searching for a Sudhir Phadke song to discuss on this occasion, I stumbled upon the movie called “Apradhi” (1949). I recall this movie as a delightful movie because I have seen portions of it while discussing a song from this movie(Apraadhi) in the past.

A natural talent that made a significant impression when launched, but eventually could not compare to the range and versatility of its peers.
Another reason often mentioned is the simplicity and the lack of awareness of the machinations of the film world. An innocent contravention, and the anchor support was taken away. And then the talent transmogrified into another role. And the resulting fun and laughter, then lasted a good half a century.

When Manoj Kumar approached him for lyrics and music for his film on the life of Bhagat Singh, the first thing he did was he traveled to Banga village in Punjab, and personally met with the Bhagat Singh’s moher, Mata Vidyawati ji. He talked with her about the legendary martyr, his childhood, his time in college, and as a freedom fighter. And the time he spent in the prison. From these reminiscences of Mata Vidyawati, the incredible poetry that emerged from the pen of this extraordinary poet became the iconic song of patriotic inspiration – “Tu Na Rona Ke Tu Hai Bhagat Singh Ki Maa. . .”.
