Raja Mehdi Ali Khan joined the Hindi film industry sometime around mid 1940s as a dialogue writer. His first film as a lyricist was Filmistan’s ‘Do Bhai’ (1947) in which he teamed up with S D Burman and wrote lyrics for all the songs. His next two films as a lyricist with S D Burman were ‘Vidya’ (1948) and ‘Kamal Ke Phool’ (1949). Surprisingly after 1949, Raja Mehdi Ali Khan had no opportunity to team up with S D Burman again. His association with Madan Mohan started in the film ‘Aankhen’ (1950) which continued till 1967 in 12 Hindi films.

This is a duet with Rafi from the film ‘Superman’ (1960). Prem Dhawan is the lyricist and the music director is Sardar Malik. Only the audio link is available, but it is said to be picturized on Helen and Majnu.

Two days ago, I had posted one song from a film that is very obscure –‘Jawahar’ (1960). The song I had posted was for the birth anniversary of Dwijen Mukhopadhyay. And I had written in the article that I have no additional information about this film. The same day, Kirit ji Bhatt almost immediately added the comment, appreciating the upload and requesting for another song from the same film. Ah, that give me encouragement that listeners in our friend circle do remember even the obscure films, because of the songs and music.

‘ X ‘ as we all know is the 24th letter in the alphabetic order of the English Language. Over the years I have often heard the phrase ‘ angrez chale gaye aur yeh angrezi chhod gaye…… ‘ This was usually in response to someone saying either ”sorry’ or ‘thank you’. The aspersion on the whole language was cast as ‘sorry’ and ‘thank you’ seem more formal and trivial words, compared to our own ‘ shukriya ‘ and ‘ mu’aaf kijiye ‘ or ‘dhanyawad’ and ‘kshama kijiye’ .

Similarly, the alphabet ‘ X ‘ of the English language is surplus to requirement as far as Hindi /Urdu are concerned.
