When I look at the names of producer, director, lyricist and music director of “Aabroo” (1968), I realise that this is the same team of “Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya” (1966). Like the 1966 movie, “Aabroo” (1968) too was a musical blockbuster but no great shakes storywise. “Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya” (1966) had a great starcast that was sadly wasted. It turns out that the makers had not lost their touch and here they successfully wasted actors like Ashok Kumar, Rehman, Shashikala, Leela Naidu, Jeevan, Mukri, Sunder, Tun Tun, Lalita Pawar, Nirupa Roy, Niranjan Sharma, Praveen Paul, Ravi Kant, Uma Khosla, Nita etc. This movie also had Deepak Kumar, Vimi in lead roles who were immune to such wastage. 🙂

A graceful on screen presence, with an impressive portfolio of powerful performances behind her, she belongs to that extra special club of leading ladies that ruled the silver screen from 1950s to the 1970s – Meena Kumari, Nutan, Sadhna, Asha Parekh, Waheeda Rehman, Vijayntimala. . . – all an exclusive group.

I am very much aware of the fact that some much better and rarer songs are out there which could have been posted. Their time will surely come, but it was not to be in this series.
