This is perhaps the only film in a Hindi cinema,so far, where the same actress has done the role of a young woman in a film and again did the role of her daughter in the same film. There are some Hindi films which double roles have been done by a few actresses, of mother and daughter in the same film. What makes today’s film different is its Title.

Today’s song is from the film Dhoomketu (1949).
There was one more film having the same title in 1985, but that film had a credible story dealing with some scientific research etc. However today’s film was only a C grade stunt film and had nothing to do with Astronomy or any other science. It was a plain, simple, predictable stunt film. Dhoomketu (Comet) is the name of the film’s Hero. In my entire life I have never come across such a name in any language or any state of India. Hats off to the story writer of this film.

Today’s song is a very rare song from an obscure film-Parbat ki Rani-1948. The film was made by Leela Chitra Mandir, owned by the heroine of the film-Leela Pawar. The lyricist and director of this film was A.Karim and the Music Composer was Master Ibrahim. He gave music to only 2 films and his only one song is available. It is uploaded by Shri Girdharilal Vishwakarma ji, who kindly tells us about who are the singers too. HFGK does not mention any singers.

Today’s song is from an obscure, unknown, ‘Ç’ grade stunt film – Toofani Tirandaz-47. This film was made by Homi Wadia’s Basant Pictures, but, for a change, it was directed by Boman Shroff – who was a regular actor in Wadia’s stable, present in almost every film of Fearless Nadia, including today’s film. The cast of the film was Nadia, Prakash, Sayani Aatish, Boman Shroff, Sona Chatterjee, Mithu miyan, Krishnakant, Rajpoot(horse) and Austin ki Bachhi(a jalopy). The film had 8 songs, all written by Begum Aziz Minai ( her other film was Aabida-47 in which she wrote 3 songs). Music was composed by A.Karim.

Today’s song is from film Namumkin-46. It is a duet of Shamshad Begum and K.S.Ragi.
We are accustomed to see only the usual regular well known names, but when some new or unknown name appears, our brows are raised and we wonder who this singer is. Same thoughts came to my mind when I first came across his name few years back. One would immediately think of the singers in a Gurudwara, who are also called Raagis. I tried and tried very hard, but except that he hailed from Andhra pradesh, I could not get any other information on him. Then one fine morning K S Ragi’s daughter appeared on RMIM forum and gave some more information. Though even this was very meagre, still at least something was there.

In the first episode, we have described the period of 40s as the decade of experimentation and changes. Stunt films had started from the era of silent films itself, but sporadically. This genre prospered in the 40s as many films featuring deadly stunt scenes( actually done, not trick scenes) came on the screen. Among the actors who were famous for stunt films in the 40s were Master Vithal, Master Bhagwan, Fearless Nadia and few others. But no one became as successful and popular as Fearless Nadia in stunt film genre. Fearless Nadia who became famous from her First stunt film ” Hunterwali”-1935 itself, worked exclusively for Wadia Brothers, who discovered her. She worked for Wadia Movietone from 1933 to 1942 and for Basant Pictures from 43 to upto her retirement. She worked in 37 films in all. Her first film was ‘Lal e Yaman’-1933 and the last one was ‘ Khiladi’-1958.

Chaar Chaand -1953 was one of those non-descript movies which leave no trace behind them, once they go off the screen.
I had not seen this film and I did not get any information about this film anywhere on the net or in any books or magazines. With a star cast of B grade, like Shyama, Suresh, Bhagwan, Shaikh, Majnu, Cuckoo etc, even its production banner was not well known- Fine art films, Bombay.
