Today’s song is a Parody song from a C grade Stunt film Diamond Queen-1940.

From the time the Silent films started, it was the time to make Stunt and Costume films. The entire focus of these films was on attracting the workers, daily earners, the poor and the lower class of the society, who looked for entertainment which they could afford. C grade films were the cheapest to make. After the Talkie films started, the Silent films vanished forever slowly. It took about 3 years after the Talkie films started in 1931 to stop making Silent films. The last Silent film was ” Shareef Badmash” made by Shri Ganesh Films, Bombay (Censor Certificate -B-13975 dt 2-11-1934).

I had earlier shared a song from the movie ‘Himmat-1970’. The title of the song is ‘himmat kare insaan to kya kar nahin saktaa’. This song was posted on 03.11.2020. I had mentioned in this song-post that the song was noted by me long back i.e., in 2013.

Around the same time, I came across today’s song which is ‘agar insaan mein himmat ho to kya kar nahin saktaa’. This song is from the ‘1942’ film ‘Jungle Princess’. Today I am presenting this song.

In the sphere of Parsi Theatres, there were many artists who had contributed in the growth of Indian theatres. But there were few personalities and artists associated with Parsi Theatres whose contributions led to its strong foundation. Some theatre scholars whose specialisation is in South Asian theatres, regard Agha Hashr Kashmiri (Writer-Director), Pandit Narayan Prasad ‘Betab’ (Writer-Director), Radheshyam Katha Vachak (Writer-Director), Master Fida Hussain (Actor-Singer) and Jaishankar Bhojak, popularly known as Jaishankar Sundari (Actor-Singer) as the pioneers in developing the Parsi Theatres.

Wandering into the world of movies of 1930s and 40s gives me immense pleasure. Digging for difficult to find information about old films, directors, music directors, singers or actors is an interesting challenge for me.While on a chase for such information, I frequently come to dead ends and then have to seek another road to gaining knowledge. It is very sad that in our country, documentation about films of 1930s and 40s is very poor.

Sachin Dev Burman started his musical career as a singer-composer, mainly of non-filmy songs in the 1930s in Calcutta (Kolkatta). After joining the Hindi film industry as a music director in 1946, he sang very few songs in Hindi films and that too only those composed by himself. So I was under the impression that he did not sing any songs in Hindi films under the baton of other music directors. I was wrong in my impression as I found a few days that he sang such songs way back in the beginning of his career. As early as 1941, he had rendered a song for a Hindi film under the music direction of Madhulal Damodar Master. This song happened to be his debut song for Hindi films.
