There are innumerable ‘when in doubt…’ quotes out there from ‘when in doubt wear red’ to ‘go public’ to ‘throw it out’. Just to give the briefer ones. There are some sensible ones like ‘do not react’ or ‘sleep over it’. For someone like me fortunate enough to know Urdu, it makes sense to turn to Urdu poetry.

“Qaatil” (1960) was directed by Mohammad Hussain for Prithvi Pictures. This movie had Premnath, Chitra, Hiralal, Kamal Mehra, Shyam Kumar, Lalita Pawar etc in it.

“Daada” (1949) was an Omar Khayyam Productions movie. It was directed by Harish. The movie had Sheikh Mukhtar, Shyam, Munawwar Sultana, Cuckoo, Begum Para, Mukri, Ansari, Maya Banerji, Pratima Devi, Murad etc in it.

Chal chal chameli baag mein

I am aware of a movie called “Dada” (1978). Later I found out that another movie of the same name was released in 1966 too. Both these movies incidentally had the same music director, viz Usha Khanna.
Now I find that there was another movie of the same name, which was released in 1949.

“Zindagi Ya Toofaan” (1958) is a movie that had Pradeep Kumar,Nutan,Johny Walker and Minu Mumtaz in it. The movie as well as its songs are not all that well known these days. But that has not stopped me from discussing a couple of songs from this movie.

Mainstream A grade movie makers confined themselves to movies on mainstream subjects- viz boy falling into love with girl and singing songs routine. The tales from mythology, Folk tales, arabian nights tales etc , which were such rich sources for stories were regarded as commercially risky propositions and as such were not ventured into. It was left to small budget small time B grade movie makers to make movies on these subjects.
